PROBLEMATIC SOILS AND GROUND IMPROVEMENT

REPORT &
MARKS

Report must consists:

Each group will choose a topic that relates to theme


Problematic Soils and Ground Improvement and their
associated/suggested solutions.
b) Find at least 5 articles (journals or proceedings) or case studies
that relates to the topic.
c) Prepare a report and poster/model on the topic.
d) Each group must present their report, poster/model during week
10 of the semester (between 13 to 17 Nov 2016 from 8.30 am to
12.00 pm). The presentation will be judged by academicians
and practitioners and the use of English language is encouraged.
e) The report should include progress of the project by presenting
minutes of the group meetings (at least 2 meetings).
f) Other than encouraging students to appreciate the importance of
geotechnical engineering, the project is also intended to fulfill
the PLO of the faculty.

APPENDIX 1:
GUIDELINE FOR REPORT
1. Format
Papers should be prepared using Microsoft Word software. The font to be used is Times New Roman.
Papers should not be paginated. The first page should give keywords, authors postal and electronic mailing
addresses. The paper must not be more than 10 pages in total.
1.1 Margin
The margin for the general text is 1 inch on the top, bottom, left and right.
1.2 Headings
Type first-order heads in 12-point size, bold, left justified with initial capitalization of the first word only.
First-order heads are preceded and followed by one line spacing. Second-order heads are different only in
the font size, which is 10-point.
1.3 Figures and tables
All figures and tables must be numbered and captioned. They must be properly centered on the page within
the prescribed margins. The word Figure or Table is preceded by a period and one character spacing,
followed by its caption. Font size is 8-point, regular. Its number and caption that appear below the figures or
above the tables are preceded and followed by one line spacing (see examples below):

2. Layout
2.1 Title

The title of the paper must be in CAPITAL letters, bold, 14-point size and is centered at
the top of the first page; begins three lines spacing below and followed by two lines
spacing after.
2.2 Name of Author(s)
The name of author(s) should be in upper and lower case, regular, 12-point size and is centered.
2.3 Author affiliation(s)
Author(s) affiliation, address of affiliation, the city and state are in upper and lower case, regular, 8-point
size and is centered below the author name; followed by two lines spacing after.
2.4 Text
Text must be typed in single spacing, regular, 10-point size and justified. Paragraphs begin with an
indentation of 0.2 inch. No spacing is required between paragraphs.
2.5 References
Bibliographical references appear after Acknowledgements. Use 9-point size, regular.
