ThesetupwizardforMicrosoftWindowsinstallsallthesoftwareandcomponentsthatyou
requireforrunningAlfresco.ThissetupwizardinstallsAlfrescoandadditionalsoftware,including
aTomcatapplicationserver,PostgreSQLdatabase,JRE,andLibreOffice.
1.Downloadoneofthefollowinginstallationfiles:
alfrescocommunityinstaller201609EAwinx32.exe
alfrescocommunityinstaller201609EAwinx64.exe
FilesareavailablefromDownloadandinstallAlfresco[1] .
TherearetwoversionsoftheAlfrescosetupwizard:onefor32bitsystems,andtheother
for64bitsystems.Usetheversionappropriateforyoursystemtype.
2.Doubleclickthedownloadedfile.
3.OntheLanguageSelectionwindow,selecttheinstallationlanguage.Thedefault
languageisEnglish.ClickOKtoacceptthedefaultlanguage.
4.OntheSetupAlfrescoCommunitywindow,clickNext.
5.Selecttheinstallationlanguage.
Thissetsthelanguagetobeusedfortheremainderofthesetupwizard.
6.OntheInstallationtypewindow,choosehowyouwanttousethesetupwizard.
Therearetwotypesofinstallationinthesetupwizard:
Option

Description

Easy

EasytypeinstallsAlfrescousingthedefaultoptionsandconfiguration.This
installtyperequiresonlytwofields:installlocationandadministrator
password.ChoosethisroutetoinstallAlfrescowiththedefaultenvironment.
Note:IfyouhavepreviouslyinstalledAlfrescoandtheserverisrunning,
whenyourunthisinstallationwizardagain,youmaybepromptedtoenter
alternativeportnumbersforthecomponentsandservicesthatyouinstall.

Advanced

AdvancedtypeinstallsAlfrescobutletsyouconfiguretheserverportsand
serviceproperties.Youcanalsochoosewhichadditionalcomponentsto
install.

TocompletetheEasysetupwizard:
a.SelectEasy,andthenclickNext.

b.OntheInstallationFolderwindow,clickNexttoacceptthedefaultlocation.
c.OntheAdminPasswordwindow,enterapasswordfortheAdministratoruser(admin).
d.Repeatthepassword,andthenclickNext.
e.ClickNextthroughtheremainingwindowsinthesetupwizard.
f.ClickFinishtocompletetheinstallation.
GotothestepfortheCompletingtheAlfrescoCommunitySetupWizardwindow
andlaunchingAlfrescoShare.
TocompletetheAdvancedsetupwizard,selectAdvancedandthenclickNext.
Followtheremainingstepsinthistask.
7.OntheSelectComponentswindow,selectthecomponentsthatyouwanttoinstall.
Deselectthecomponentsthatyoudonotwanttoinstall.

8.Whenyouhavefinishedselectingthecomponents,clickNext.
9.OntheInstallationFolderwindow,clickNexttoacceptthedefaultlocation.
Forexample,thedefaultlocationisC:\alfrescocommunity.
Alternatively,clickthe

icontochooseanotherlocation.

Important:ThereisaknownproblemrelatedtotheuseofvirtualWindowsdrivesand
permissionrestrictionsontheCdriveinWindows.IfyouselectavirtualWindowsdrive,
andyouhaveselectedadditionalcomponentsinstep7,youmightreceiveanerror
messageduringinstallation:
09160000AnIOerrorwasencounteredduringdeploymentoftheAMPintotheWAR

Theinstallationwillcomplete,butadditionalcomponentswillnotbeaddedtotheAlfresco
installation.Theerrordoesnotoccurifthevirtualdriveisassociatedtoafolderthatisnot
ontheCdrive(thatis,anyotherphysicalorvirtualharddiskontheWindowsmachine).
Youhavetwooptions:
DonotusetheSUBSTcommandforfoldersontheCdrive(inotherwords,use
SUBSTonotherdrivesinstead)
UseaVirtualHardDisk(VHD),whichbehaveslikeaphysicaldisk,inplaceofthe
virtualWindowsdrivefortheinstall.Forguidance,seeCreateanduseaVirtualHard
Disk[2] .
10.TheDatabaseServerParameterswindowpromptsyoutoenteraportnumberforyour
database.
EnterasuitableportnumberorclickNexttoacceptthedefaultof5432.
11.OntheTomcatPortConfigurationwindow,enterthefollowingTomcatconfiguration
parameters:
a.WebServerDomain
Forexample,thedefaultis127.0.0.1.

TheURLhttp://127.0.0.1:8080/share[3] isbasedonthewebserverdomainandthe
TomcatportnumberthatyouspecifyontheTomcatPortConfigurationwindow.The
defaultof127.0.0.1canbeusedonthismachinetoverifythatAlfrescoisrunning
successfully.However,itisnotanexternallyaddressableURL,whichmeansthatitis
notpossibleforusersonothermachinestoaccessthisURL.Tomakesurethatother
userscanaccessthemachinewhereAlfrescoisinstalled,youneedtodefineand
createapubliclyaddressablename.
b.TomcatServerPort
Forexample,thedefaultis8080.
c.TomcatShutdownPort
Forexample,thedefaultis8005.
d.TomcatSSLPort
Forexample,thedefaultis8443.
e.TomcatAJPPort
Forexample,thedefaultis8009.
12.(Optional)IfyouareinstallingtheLibreOfficecomponent,theLibreOfficeServerPort
windowdisplays.EnteraportnumberonwhichtheLibreOfficeserverwilllisten.
13.OntheAlfrescoFTPPortwindow,enteraportnumberfortheAlfrescoFTPserver.
14.OntheAdminPasswordwindow,enterapassword.Repeatthepassword,andthenclick
Next.
ThissetsthepasswordfortheAlfrescoAdministratoruseraccount(admin).
CAUTION:
YoumustuseASCIIcharactersonlywhensettingthepasswordusingtheAlfrescosetup
wizard.Ifyouneedtoresetthepassword(toincludenonASCIIcharacters)after
installation,seeChangingauser'spassword[4] .
15.(Optional)IfyouareinstallingSharePointProtocolSupport,theAlfrescoSharePointPort
windowdisplays.Enteraportnumber,andthenclickNext.
16.OntheServiceStartupConfigurationwindow,selectwhetheryouwanttheservicetostart
upmanuallyorautomatically.
17.OntheReadytoInstallwindow,clickNext.
TheInstallingwindowdisplays,showingtheprogressoftheinstallation.
18.OntheCompletingtheAlfrescoCommunitySetupWizardwindow,clickFinish.
ThiswindowshowscheckboxesthatdeterminewhetheryouwillseetheReadmefile,the
GettingStarted[5] webpage,andalsowhethertolaunchAlfresco.Bydefault,theseoptions
areselectedandwilllaunchwhenyouclickFinish.IfyoudonotwanttostartAlfrescoat
thispoint,deselecttheLaunchAlfrescoCommunitycheckbox.
19.ClickOKtoclosetheReadme.
TheAlfrescoserverstartsandthenAlfrescolaunchesinyourdefaultbrowser.
Important:ItcantakeseveralminutestostarttheAlfrescoserverandtolaunchAlfresco.
Yourbrowseropensandtriestoconnecttohttp://127.0.0.1:8080/share[3] .
20.LogontoAlfrescoastheadminuser.EnterthepasswordthatyouspecifiedintheAdmin
Passwordwindow.

TheAlfrescoserverislaunchedasaWindowsservice.Tomanagetheserver,openthe
ControlPanelServiceswindow.TheservicesthatwillberunningforanAlfrescoinstall
usingthedefaultoptionsare:
alfrescoPostgreSQL
alfrescoTomcat

IfyoudidnotautomaticallylaunchAlfrescoattheendoftheinstallationwizard,tostart
Alfresco,youneedtostartalltheservices.Usetheservicerunstartscriptintheinstallation
directoryorselectAllPrograms>AlfrescoCommunity>AlfrescoCommunityService
>StartAlfrescoCommunityService.
21.TofullystopAlfresco,youmuststopalltheservices.Usetheservicerunstopscriptinthe
installationdirectoryorselectAllPrograms>AlfrescoCommunity>Alfresco
CommunityService>StopAlfrescoCommunityService.
