WRITING A REPORT

What is a report?
A report is written for a clear purpose and to a particular audience.
Specific information and evidence are presented, analysed and
applied.1
What makes a good report?
Two of the reasons why reports are used as forms of written
assessment are:
1. To find out what you have learned ;
2. To give you experience of an important skill that is widely used
in the work place. 1
All sources used should be acknowledged and referenced
throughout.
A well written report will demonstrate your ability to: 1
1. Gather, evaluate and analyse relevant information;
(What you have understood, what is the feedback, what is the
response to the feedback)
2. structure material in a logical and coherent order;
3. make appropriate conclusions that are supported by the
evidence and analysis of the report;
(From the responses, you can ask doubts, clarifications,
elaborations. Also, it helps you evaluate what you have learnt
and what needs to be done)
4. make thoughtful and practical recommendations where
required.
For the immediate context: Students will be presenting a daily
report via email
This should have:
1. Date
2. Name
3. Classes/Subjects | What was taught | What was the work
assigned
4. Clarifications or elaborations if required.
That is all. The report needs.
