Polarizacin:
Para obtener la direccin de una falta, se compara el ngulo del fasor de una
corriente de operacin, que vara con la direccin de la falta, y el ngulo del
fasor de otra seal del sistema que no depende de la ubicacin de la falta.
Esta seal se la conoce como seal o magnitud de polarizacin.

O MAGNITUD DE POLARIZACIN
Para las funciones de fase: las magnitudes de polarizacin son las tensiones
de fase o una combinacin de ellas en donde est ubicada la
proteccin.
Para las funciones de tierra: las magnitudes de polarizacin pueden ser
magnitudes de secuencia negativa o magnitudes de secuencia
cero. Generalmente se aplican las magnitudes de secuencia
negativa cuando el acoplamiento de secuencia cero no permite
distinguir la direccin.

Para poder distinguir la direccin durante una falta se debe tener en cuenta
que:
- La tensin del sistema colapsa en el lugar de la falta. Por lo tanto para
obtener la suficiente sensibilidad de la proteccin bajo condiciones de
falta, la tensin de polarizacin no debe incluir las tensiones en falta.
- El factor de potencia de una falta es bajo, la corriente esta atrasada casi
90 de la tensin. De todas las conexiones posibles para obtener una
correcta discriminacin de la direccin durante una falta, la conexin a
90 es la ms usada.

Ajustes
Para los ajustes de las corriente de operacin para la funcin temporizada e
instantnea, as como para la eleccin de la curva de operacin, se aplican
los mismos criterios que se aplican a las protecciones de sobrecorriente no
direccionales de fase.
