Day 1: Reflection
A. Write an assessment of the students performance and mastery in terms of
each stated objective. List each objectives evaluation separately
o PA Environment and Ecology 4.1.4A: Explain how living things are
dependent upon other living and nonliving things for survival. Explain
what happens to an organism when its food supply, access to water,
shelter or space (niche / habitat) is changed.
We talked in class about the seasons that the ruffed grouse may
live in but I did not get to talk about what would happen to them
if their habitat was changed and the forests they were living in
were cut down.
o PA Civics and Government 5.1.3.F: Identify state symbols, national
symbols, and national holidays.
The students were able to identify the states bird. They learned
about the bird including characteristics, the things it eats, and
where it lives. The students completed an exit slip accurately.
B. Write a self-evaluation including explanation for success or lack of it. Discuss:
what changes might have produced better results and could be used in
subsequent lessons.
o I thought the lesson went well over all. I was not very comfortable with
the class because I had not worked with them before. I think I did a
decent job but would have liked to be more assertive especially with
behavior management. The class was very talkative. I hadnt originally
planned to have the students talk in their table groups but I think they
needed to do that to get some of their energy out. For my next lesson I
plan to have a more interactive activities that involves the students
and their participation. The class was very eager to participate and
share things they know, and I would like to use that in my next lesson.
Another area that will be different for my next lesson is knowing the
students names. We did not get a class list until we arrived today so
we were unable to make nametags for the students. Having name tags
for the next lesson will be very helpful. This will not only help with
management, but it will help with being personal with the students. It
will be easier to call on students when you can call them by name
rather than just look at them or point to them.
C. Explain what specific changes were implemented from professor and teacher
suggestions and the results (if suggestions were not taken, explain your
rationale).
o I did not have my lesson done in enough time to get feedback before I
taught my lesson, but if I were to teach this lesson again, I would like
to incorporate the idea of a state symbol. The students may not have
known why they were learning about this bird. I think if I talked about
state symbols at first they would see more importance in the
information that we were talking about in class.
