Federalism

Federalism is a type of government wherein sovereignty is

divided between the nation government and sub divisional
governments. It divides the country into several autonomous states
with a national government.
President Rodrigo Duterte has promised to introduce federalism
to the Philippines. Now many have agreed to it (Federalists) and some
didnt (Anti-Federalists).
Federalists argued that Federalism can be good for our
country. Now one of the advantages of this is people can decide for
themselves. Take a region for example, each of it have their own
problems. With federalism it allows them to create their own solutions
instead of distant Metro Manila deciding for them. If the capital will
decide something, the regions can have their own decision for
themselves weather if they agree to it or against it. This also can
lessen dependence on Metro Manila. Regions can work independently
of Metro Manila most concerns.
Imagine that the regions are now more self-reliant and in control
of their development, they will judge themselves to how the others are
progressing creating the leaders and citizen some motivation to level
up the term of quality of life, economic development and etc. Another
advantage for this well is that it ensure that the government remains
close to the people for the leaders will no longer have any excuses for
delays in services or projects.
However the Anti-Federalists also have something on their minds
why Federalism is not beneficial to our country. One is that there will
be competition among states sure is can be healthy for the people but
it could also lead to more rivalries and worse disunity among the
Filipino people. According to critics, Hostilities among ethnic groups
could increase due to this. Some Musims want to have their own
country and not just a state. The Autonomous Region in Muslim
Mindanao did not stop some of the terror groups. With federalism,
these might continue to create some destruction causing chaos and
many deaths to our country. Another reason also is that Federalism
cannot function well because of ignorance. Most Filipino know little
about their place which citizens consequently often ignore the local
governments eventhough these governments have a lot of power to
affect peoples lives.
Overall, we are sure that the people only want wants best for us
and our country. Whatever their points of views are, what we still need
is to strengthen the centralized government. That is what we need for
now considering that its very expensive to have a Federalism in our
country and we are still paying our funds. Yes it is to make our country

more progressive and all but still we need to do this step by step. Now
which one are you? Federalist or Anti Federalist?
