Najat

Observation #1

Grade 2

27 sts

Maryam School

October 18, 2016

3 rd period

9:50-10:35

Strengths

Needs improvement

Tr uses hand gestures and voice intonation

during her lesson.
Tr uses repeated words and action to get the sts
accustomed to the concept.
Integrates some science in with her math
Good use of visuals
Differentiation was seen.
Does some how do you know questioning
When a st makes a mistake, she asks the class
to identify the mistake, even though it is not the
focus of the lesson.
Is aware of time and makes sts aware by setting
time limits.
Make sure to stick to the times you give the sts)

In her examples, the teacher has

done most of the work on the board
in a 1:1 format, teacher lead. This
can all be done on whiteboards.
Tr needs to see what sts are doing
and show examples of best
practice.
When some sts dont have their
materials (whiteboards) there
needs to be an alternative
available.
When a group comes up with a
correct answer, how can we make
sure that everybody in the group
understands?

Competency

Observations

Professionalism:

Planning for
learning:

Tr was well prepared and in the class before the start

of the session.
Lesson plan was prepared and presented.

Implementing and
managing learning:

Use of a variety of material/ activities.

Differentiation as seen.

Monitoring and
assessment:

Monitors sts as they work.

In solving an example, most sts got busy drawing a pretty flower and never got past that, 2
sts in the class did the work correctly and completely, these two need to be used as an
example.
Not all activities can be done as groups. The teacher should always have plenty of materials
available, and judge what grouping works best for sts. There are times when individual work
would be the best grouping.
If your sts seem to understand, take thema step further ( ex: whenr the sts were all able to
correctly identify odd and even using cubes, draw attention to the last number and ask the
sts to identify the pattern, how can we decide if the number is odd or even without using
cubes) .
All of the activities were well designed and did a good job, but they all did the SAME thing and
the sts had already demonstrated understanding.
In the activity where sts were role playing (mother and children) with the odd number, when
the mother gave one st more than the other, this was a good learning opportunity and could
have been dramatized in a way that made it unforgettable. The way it was dealt with was
probably not even clear to some sts.

Recommendations:
Documentation/ Make sure that when sts work in a group, all of them understand
More risky lessons, try learning centers.
