Thor and the Giants

Centuries ago in Asgard, Thor woke very early to find his hammer
had vanished during the night. Thors hammer, Mjollinir, was the
mightiest weapon that the gods had. It kept them safe from the frost
giants and the rock giants, who lived in fear that Thor would use the
hammer to crack open their skulls.

Thor almost tore Asgard apart looking for the hammer, but despite a
frantic search, it was nowhere to be found. The gods were worried.

The frost giants dare not attack Asgard while we have Thor and his
hammer, without it I fear theyll soon be banging at our gate,
declared Odin.

Knowing how important the hammer was, Loki (adopted son of Odin)
offered to search for the hammer. Similar to Odin, Loki had the
ability to change his shape and become an animal, like a bird or a
salmon. Swiftly Loki flew off, soaring high over Asgard, in search of
the hammer.
After a while, he glided across Midgard, the land of men, however
there was still no sign of Mjollnir. Later he hovered above the land of
the giants. He soon discovered that it was Thrym king of the frost
giants who had taken the hammer. Thrym stood as high as six tall
men, with blood-red eyes and sharp, pointed fangs. Thrym declared
that he would only return the hammer, if he was sent the beautiful
goddess Freyja to be his bride.

When the lovely Freyja heard the giants proposition, she was
incredibly angry, causing the walls of the city to shake as she wept
golden tears. This amused Loki, who encouraged the gods to send
her away.

It was Heimdall, the guardian of the rainbow bridge, who hatched a

plan. We must dress Thor as a blushing bride and send him in

disguise, explained Heimdall. All of the gods, except Thor burst into
laughter. Unfortunately, since Asgard was at stake, Thor had to
agree. Loki went to join in the fun, dressed as a bridesmaid.

After they arrived at Thryms hall, the wedding feast was laid. Thor
nearly gave himself away with his outrageous appetite, devouring
an entire ox and drinking several horns of delicious mead. Loki
explained it by saying the bride had not eaten in days due to her
excitement.

Let us be married at once, proclaimed the giant eagerly. Thors

heart beat faster as Thrym brought Mjollnir closer. All of a sudden,
Thor grabbed it and threw off his veil. The giants ran for their lives,
but the thunder god was too fast and plunged the hammer straight
through Thyrms head, the brains splattering across the wedding
table. Thor continued to swing the hammer until every last giant was
dead.

And that is the story of how Thors hammer was stolen, and why no
one ever stole it again.
