Book, Line Graph Template Standard: S4E4a: Students will analyze weather charts/maps and collect weather data to predict weather events and infer patterns and seasonal changes. Substandard: Identify weather instruments and explain how each is used in gathering weather data and making forecasts (thermometer, rain gauge, barometer, wind vane, anemometer) EQ: Why do we use the following weather instruments: rain gauge, thermometer, anemometer, barometer, and wind vane? Activator: As a class, take the instruments that were completed last week and place them outside (if they are made of the appropriate materials) in a space that will be open to the elements, but will not be disturbed by foot traffic. The students will then observe and record the data collected from each of the weather instruments in their data sheets. (20 min). Teaching: SW: The students will complete their brochure/flip book project and turn them in. Once finished and if time allows, students can watch the weather playlist on NatGeo Kids at: http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/explore/youtube-playlistpages/youtube-playlist-weather/ Differentiation: Work with a partner or independently Small Group Instruction Teacher Support Access to Chrome Book Summarizer: The completed brochure will serve as the summarizer. Evaluation: S. Classwork, S. Participation, T. Observation, S. Performance

Materials: Science Journal, Weather Instrument w/data sheet, Chrome Book, Line Graph Template Standard: S4E4a: Students will analyze weather charts/maps and collect weather data to predict weather events and infer patterns and seasonal changes. Lesson: Identify weather instruments and explain how each is used in gathering weather data and making forecasts (thermometer, rain gauge, barometer, wind vane, anemometer)
EQ: Why do we use the following weather instruments: rain gauge,
thermometer, anemometer, barometer, and wind vane? Activator: As a class take the students outside to observe and record the data collected from each of the weather instruments in their data sheets. As this is the last day for observation, the students can also collect the instruments (20 min). Teaching: WG/SW/TW: WG: As a class, discuss the data collected from each instrument throughout the week. SW: The students are to use the data collected throughout the week to calculate the averages. TW: An introduction or recap of averages may be necessary. An introduction to creating a line graph may also be necessary; the template provides introfriendly spaces to help them become accustomed to graphing and labeling the graphs. SW: Students will finish the line graphs for each set of data and then glue them into their science journal. Beneath the graphs they will complete the summarizer. If time allows, they may continue watching the weather playlist on NatGeo Kids from Monday at: http://kids.nationalgeographic.com/explore/youtube-playlistpages/youtube-playlist-weather/ Differentiation: Work with a partner or independently Small Group Instruction Teacher Support Access to Chrome Book Summarizer: In their science journals, the students will analyze their line graphs and write a summary of their observations and the trends indicated in the graphs. Evaluation: S. Classwork, S. Participation, T. Observation, S. Performance
