This artifact is the Current Reality Project and it was completed in ITEC 7460. The
artifact was completed individually but involved collaborating with leaders in the
school. The purpose of the artifact was to determine if the professional learning that
was offered at the school and in the county was effective or not. I interviewed the
principal at our high school on certain components of professional learning such as:
the topics, presentation, setting, evaluation to determine the effectiveness. After a
decision was made the principal and I discussed what types of adjustments needed
to be made to improve professional learning at the school and county.
This artifact shows mastery of PSC Standard 5.3 because it demonstrates my ability
to design and implement program evaluations to determine the overall
effectiveness of professional learning on deepening teacher content knowledge,
improving teacher pedagogical skills and/or increasing student learning. In order to
design the evaluation, I used the Current Reality Template that was provided to
us in the course. After the evaluation was designed, I used the Georgia School
Performance standards to implement the evaluation. The implementation of the
evaluation was to determine the overall effectiveness of professional
learning on deepening teacher content knowledge, improving teacher
pedagogical skills and/or increasing student learning. After interviewing the
principal and getting input from other leaders at our school, it was determined that
the professional learning that had been provided had been effective in improving
teaching and learning at our school. Administrator and teacher feedback credited
the fact that there were many options throughout the school year to learn how to
improve teaching and learning for teachers. The flexibility of professional
development and topics that were covered offer teachers an opportunity to improve
their craft based on any area they feel they have a need in. It was decided that after
state and district tests were completed and shared with the school that the leaders
and I would meet again to decide if any adjustments need to be made for future
professional development.
I learned that its important to get with leaders at your school to make adjustments
to professional learning frequently throughout the year. I learned that its important
for leaders to offer professional development to teachers that align with the goals
that are determined in advance. Its important that the school and county offer
flexibility for teachers to attend professional development because the turnout
increases and the feedback is more positive. I learned that offering focused and
meaningful professional development can improve teaching and learning in schools.
This positively impacts the school and staff by determining if the professional
development that has been offered was effective or not. By coming up with a
decision, school leaders can determine if they need to make changes and

adjustments which will positively affect the school environment and the strategies
teachers use. Students will benefit by having proven credible teaching strategies
used in their classes to engage them in their learning experiences. This impact can
be assessed by teacher observations, administration observations, and teacher and
student feedback.
