Artifact 1 Course Schedule

PSC Online Teaching Endorsement Standards:
Candidates will apply experiences as an online student to develop successful strategies for teaching
online. (II.iv.I)

Reflection: (100-125 words) Reflect on why the artifact is important to online teaching, how it demonstrates
mastery of the standards given, and how it contributes to your understanding of online teaching and learning.

The artifact is important to online teaching because the teacher needs to be organized with their
lessons so that learning builds upon itself and the skills that are necessary to complete future
assignments are created early. It is also important for students to understand their schedule and
what is required of them so that they can stay on track and be sure that all their work is done.
Having a schedule planned out in advance is also beneficial for students that may need to start
assignments earlier or that need proper notice of assignments so that they can get the proper
accommodations set up to help them with their assignments. There might be some out there that
think setting up a schedule is to tedious but a lot of heartache can be avoided just by putting in a
few minutes of planning and the course will run much smoother on both ends.

Artifact 2 Online Course Prep Checklist

PSC Online Teaching Endorsement Standards:
Candidates will demonstrate the ability to anticipate challenges and problems in the online classroom.
(II.iv.II)
Candidates will continually review all materials and Web resources for alignment with course
objectives and standards and or appropriateness. (II.v.I)

Reflection: (100-125 words) Reflect on why the artifact is important to online teaching, how it demonstrates mastery
of the standards given, and how it contributes to your understanding of online teaching and learning.

The artifact is important to online teaching because the teacher must be aware of all the
necessary components of the online classroom. Just like in the traditional classroom, if things are
missing with materials or necessary components are left out it could mess up many areas of the
course. Its important that the teacher addresses each necessary component of the checklist to
ensure that they are doing everything they can to have a smoothly running course that is easily
accessible and easily navigated so that students can do their work properly. Course schedule,
syllabus, contact information etc. are critical for the classroom but there are things that should
be addressed like the website home page, help information and if students understand how to
navigate the site before the course ever begins. By going through a checklist the teacher doesnt
have to worry if they didnt cover something important.

Artifact 3 Learning Styles Inventory

PSC Online Teaching Endorsement Standards:
Candidates will differentiate instruction of students learning styles and needs and assist students in
assimilating and accommodating meaningful information. (II.i.IX)

Reflection: (100-125 words) - Reflect on why the artifact is important to online teaching, how it demonstrates
mastery of the standards given, and how it contributes to your understanding of online teaching and learning.

The artifact is important to online teaching because the teacher must be aware of all the different
types of learning styles so that they can target students strengths and interests when creating
lessons and units. Students learning styles are important to that individual because that style is
how they learn and retain new information. If students are not interested in the subject or cant
apply the learning to something they enjoy then the students learning experience is bland and it
might be difficult to retain the information. Teachers need to do some type of questionnaire or
survey to gather information about their students interests and how the learn the best so that
they can meet those needs and have their students engaged in the learning.

Artifact 4 Online Learning Resources

PSC Online Teaching Endorsement Standards:
Candidates will demonstrate continual growth in technology knowledge and skills to stay abreast of
current and emerging technologies. (I.i.VII)
Candidates will model appropriate strategies essential to continued growth and development of the
understanding of technology operations and concepts. (I.i.VIII)

Reflection: (100-125 words) Reflect on why the artifact is important to online teaching, how it demonstrates mastery
of the standards given, and how it contributes to your understanding of online teaching and learning.

The artifact is important to online teaching because the teacher must be aware of all the different
resources available online to help them with instruction in the online setting. Teachers must
continue to learn no matter how many years of experience they have and this is true for the
online teacher. In the beginning, the online instructor needs to research valuable ways to keep
their classes organized and to give their students an authentic and engaging learning experience.
As they gather more experience, the online teacher should get comfortable with the setting but
the learning shouldnt stop. The major benefit of online teaching is that there is a multitude of
technology available and teachers must be aware of the new technology available and how to use
it to help their students out.

Artifact 5 Course Syllabus

PSC Online Teaching Endorsement Standards:
Candidates will provide an effective online syllabus that lays out the terms of the class interaction for
both teacher and students, defines clear expectations for both teacher and students, details the grading
criteria and appropriate and inappropriate behavior for students, and explains the course organization
to students. (II.ii.III)
Candidates will provide an online syllabus with objectives, concepts, and ideas, and learning outcomes
in a clearly written, concise format. (II.ii.IV)
Candidates will provide clearly defined statements informing students what to expect in terms of your
response time. (II.ii.VII)

Reflection: (100-125 words) Reflect on why the artifact is important to online teaching, how it demonstrates mastery
of the standards given, and how it contributes to your understanding of online teaching and learning.

This artifact is important to online teaching because the syllabus

provides a quick reference to how the course is going to be run and
what all is expected in a variety of areas such as grades, behavior etc.
The teacher needs to communicate what materials will be needed for
the class, grading system, and how to communicate with the teacher
among many other important things. If there are ever any issues with
grades or behavior problems the teacher can always go back to the
syllabus and prove that expectations were discussed before everything
got started. The syllabus also provides parents with an understanding of
what their child will be doing in that class that year and contact
information if they have any concerns with the course or how their child
is performing.

Artifact 6 Orientation
PSC Online Teaching Endorsement Standards:
Candidates will explain the course organization to students. (II.ii.III)

Reflection: (100-125 words) Reflect on why the artifact is important to online teaching, how it demonstrates mastery
of the standards given, and how it contributes to your understanding of online teaching and learning.

This artifact is important to online teaching because the orientation to

the online course is essential in having students prepared and
comfortable to submit work and complete all necessary assignments.
The online classroom can be intimidating at first so its important that
students are exposed to the different components of it gradually and do
some light activities that go with each component to familiarize
themselves with everything. There are many components to the online
classroom and students must be able to know each one well so that if
they didnt use a certain one for a while but had to in a future
assignment they can be comfortable doing so without having to spend
lots of time going through a refresher course. Having fun activities will
help students remember how to navigate and submit assignments more
so than just providing a generic website help link and having them
search things on their own.

Artifact 7 Student Engagement & Higher Order Thinking

PSC Online Teaching Endorsement Standards:
Candidates will demonstrate effective strategies and techniques that actively engage students in the
learning process, in designing, and assessing online learners and instruction. (II.i.I)
Candidates will apply technology to engage students higher order thinking skills and creativity.
(II.i.XI)
Candidates will promote collaborative learning through reflection and social negotiation. (II.i.V)
Candidates will lead online instruction groups that are meaningful, project-based, inquiry-oriented.
(II.i.VII)

Reflection: (100-125 words) Reflect on why the artifact is important to online teaching, how it demonstrates mastery
of the standards given, and how it contributes to your understanding of online teaching and learning.

These artifacts are important because they show how technology can
help engage students in the online classroom by providing multiple ways
for students to collaborate. The collaboration doesnt have to occur on
group projects alone, as there are multiple tools and sites that can allow
for collaboration on any assignment. These artifacts represent the
different areas of the course with daily work, bell ringers, and a project
all of which allowed for student collaboration in some capacity. Some of
the assignments required group input the entire time and some required
individuals to complete work and for peers to edit and offer suggestions.
Peer collaboration is key especially in the online environment for
creating an authentic and engaging learning environment.

Artifact 8 Differentiation
PSC Online Teaching Endorsement Standards:
Candidates will differentiate instruction of students learning styles and needs and assist students in
assimilating and accommodating meaningful information. (II.i.IX)
Use student data to inform instruction, assist students in their own time and task management, monitor
learner progress with available tools, and develop intervention plans for unsuccessful learners. (II.ii.V)

Reflection: (100-125 words) Reflect on why the artifact is important to online teaching, how it demonstrates mastery
of the standards given, and how it contributes to your understanding of online teaching and learning.

These artifacts are important because they show how technology can
help teachers understand where their students are at in understanding
the content taught. Actively learn allows teachers to see if students are
mastering the standards that are associated with the assignments so
that they can adjust their teaching at that time or in the future. IXL
allows teachers to figure out what standards certain students are
struggling with and assign them practice activities customized
specifically to a standard(s) so that students can overcome those
difficulties. This helped me understand online teaching and learning by
showing me that there are tools that can instantly give feedback online
so that I can help students out instantly rather than waiting to grade
assignments then address the concerns.

Artifact 9 Accommodations & Modifications

PSC Online Teaching Endorsement Standards:
Candidates will respect diverse talents and use strategies designed to include all students. (II.vi.I)
Candidates will provide activities, modified as necessary, that are relevant to special education
modifications, student age, cultural background and experiences. (II.vi.II)

Reflection: (100-125 words) Reflect on why the artifact is important to online teaching, how it demonstrates mastery
of the standards given, and how it contributes to your understanding of online teaching and learning.

These artifacts are important because they show how technology can
help teachers modify assignments to help their students out that need
them. IXL allows for adjustments to be made with activities so that
students that have certain accommodations get them when practicing.
Actively Learn allows teachers to create different versions of an
assignment and assign them to students so that accommodations are
preloaded on the work. The site also allows for text to be read aloud,
annotated, and zoomed in for those students who need it. The artifact
respects those students who need specialized instruction by allowing
adjustments to be made with assignments. The artifacts help me
understand that when finding tools for students to use online that they
need to have options for students that need modifications because you
might have students who need them in your classes.

Artifact 10 Diversity
PSC Online Teaching Endorsement Standards:
Candidates will respect diverse talents and use strategies designed to include all students. (II.vi.I)

Reflection: (100-125 words) Reflect on why the artifact is important to online teaching, how it demonstrates mastery
of the standards given, and how it contributes to your understanding of online teaching and learning.

These artifacts are important because they show how technology can
help teachers respect the diverse talents of all the students in their
classes. Assignments can be created for different classes to include
more challenges or standards to push students on all levels. Actively
Learn can show which students are mastering different standards so
that the teacher knows who to challenge more to promote higher-level
thinking. The artifact contributed to my understanding by showing me
that when choosing tools for the online environment, chose those that
will allow modifications to assignments, give instant feedback on
mastery and record data to guide you when creating assignments so
that all students are challenged to do their best.

Artifact 11 Community Building

PSC Online Teaching Endorsement Standards:
Candidate will create and maintain a community by creating value, effective facilitation, and an
environment of trust. (II.i.III)

Reflection: (100-125 words) Reflect on why the artifact is important to online teaching, how it demonstrates mastery
of the standards given, and how it contributes to your understanding of online teaching and learning.

These artifacts are important because they show how technology can
help teachers create a good community within the classroom and
outside the classroom with parents and administrators. By providing
clear expectations and constant updates and reminders the students
will always know what is expected of them and trust that the teacher is
looking out for their best interests. Showing value by simply praising
those who consistently work hard in the classroom will push students to
work harder knowing that what they do is appreciated by their peers,
teachers and parents. This artifact helped me understand that there are
numerous ways to meet the community standards through technology
and in many ways will help teachers showcase the positive things that
are going on in school more effectively than without the technological
tools.

Artifact 12 Teacher-Student Communication

PSC Online Teaching Endorsement Standards:
Candidates will consistently model effective communication skills and maintain records of applicable
communications with students. (II.ii.I)
Candidates will facilitate regular and frequent teacher-student interaction in a variety of ways. (II.ii.II)

Reflection: (100-125 words) Reflect on why the artifact is important to online teaching, how it demonstrates mastery
of the standards given, and how it contributes to your understanding of online teaching and learning.

These artifacts are important because they show how technology can
help teachers create an environment that promotes good student to
teacher communication. The tools allow for email or instant message
communication between students and teachers so that if there are any
concerns with assignments or policies that the students can
communicate those to the teacher efficiently. This applies to the
standards as there are many options given to students to communicate
with teachers during class and outside the classroom. This helped me
understand that teachers should communicate the options to students
from the beginning and offer many outlets to help or give feedback on
assignments. Its important for teachers and students to communicate
efficiently in the online classroom through tech tools because they dont
see each other face to face and if there are not a variety of ways to
communicate it could cause some students to do poorly in the course.

Artifact 13 Teacher-Parent Communication

Candidates will utilize synchronous and asynchronous tools effectively (i.e., discussion boards, chat
tools, electronic whiteboards, etc.). (I.i.IV)
Candidate will facilitate regular and frequent teacher-parent interaction in a variety of ways. (II.ii.II)

Reflection: (100-125 words) Reflect on why the artifact is important to online teaching, how it demonstrates mastery
of the standards given, and how it contributes to your understanding of online teaching and learning.

These artifacts are important because they show how technology can
help teachers create an environment that promotes good parent to
teacher communication. The tools allow for email or instant message
communication between parents and teachers so that if there are any
concerns with assignments or policies that the parents can communicate
those to the teacher efficiently. This applies to the standards as there
are many options given to parents to communicate with teachers
outside the classroom. This helped me understand that teachers should
communicate the options to parents from the beginning and offer many
outlets to help or give feedback on assignments, student progress and
concerns. Its important for teachers and parents to communicate
efficiently in the online classroom through tech tools because they dont
see each other face to face often and if there are not a variety of ways
to communicate it could cause some parents to be frustrated with the
course, teacher or the school.

Artifact 14 Student-Student Communication

PSC Online Teaching Endorsement Standards:
Candidates will utilize synchronous and asynchronous tools effectively (i.e., discussion boards, chat
tools, electronic whiteboards, etc.). (I.i.IV)
Candidates will facilitate and monitor appropriate interaction among learners. (II.i.IV)
Candidates will encourage collaboration and interaction among all students. (II.vi.III)
Candidates will model and demonstrate effective moderator techniques to facilitate active student
participation. (II.i.VIII)
Candidates will facilitate regular and frequent student-student interaction in a variety of ways. (II.ii.II)

Reflection: (100-125 words) Reflect on why the artifact is important to online teaching, how it demonstrates mastery
of the standards given, and how it contributes to your understanding of online teaching and learning.

These artifacts are important because they show how technology can
help teachers create an environment that promotes good collaboration
between students. Each of the artifacts provides many outlets for
students to email, video, or voice call to help each other out in the
online environment. This meets the standards set forth as it allows for
all the tech tools to have some way for students to reach out to their
peers when working on assignments. This is important because in the
online environment students may not see each other face to face so
having a way to get to know their peers and be able to comfortably work
with them is essential. In order for students to be comfortable working
in the online environment they need to be familiar with the tools and
these artifacts allow for tutorials on how to access and use the
communication tools.

Artifact 15 Synchronous Collaboration Tool

PSC Online Teaching Endorsement Standards:
Candidates will utilize synchronous tools effectively (i.e., chat tools, web conferencing, virtual
electronic whiteboards, etc.). (I.i.IV)

These tools offer a variety of ways to meet with
group members and synchronous work on assignments especially with
Google Classroom. This meets the standards set forth as it allows for all
the tech tools to have some way for students to reach out to their peers
when working on assignments. This is important because in the online
environment students may not see each other face to face so having a
way to get to know their peers and be able to comfortably work with
them is essential. In order for students to be comfortable working in the
online environment they need to be familiar with the tools and these
artifacts allow for tutorials on how to access and use the communication
tools.

Artifact 16 Asynchronous Collaboration Tool

PSC Online Teaching Endorsement Standards:
Candidates will utilize asynchronous tools effectively (i.e., discussion boards, email,
announcements/news, etc.). (I.i.IV)

These tools offer a variety of ways to meet with

group members and asynchronous work on assignments especially with
Google Classroom. Announcements, discussion boards, email and
announcements are made available through Google Classroom, Actively
Learn and Eclass. This meets the standards set forth as it allows for all
the tech tools to have some way for students to reach out to their peers
when working on assignments. This is important because in the online
environment students may not see each other face to face so having a
way to get to know their peers and be able to comfortably work with
them is essential. In order for students to be comfortable working in the
online environment they need to be familiar with the tools and these
artifacts allow for tutorials on how to access and use the communication
tools.

Artifact 17 Formative Assessment

PSC Online Teaching Endorsement Standards:
Candidates will use student data to inform instruction, assist students in their own time and task
management, monitor learner progress with available tools, and develop intervention plans for
unsuccessful learners. (II.ii.V)

Reflection: (100-125 words) Reflect on why the artifact is important to online teaching, how it demonstrates mastery
of the standards given, and how it contributes to your understanding of online teaching and learning.

These artifacts are important because it demonstrates a formative

assessment that can be used through a tech tool. This quick
presentation using Google Slides and a discussion post in Eclass can
show if a student understands what they are learning (in this case a
segment of a novel read in class). The teacher can monitor their
progress through the assignment instantly, check to see if they are
using their time correctly to complete tasks and adjust their teaching if
they see a student is struggling with the content. This helped contribute
to my understanding by showing me that when a teacher is choosing
certain tools for students to use in the online environment its important
to choose those that allow for instant feedback to the teacher so that
they can help if needed. It also helped show me that there are a variety
of tech tools available for students to use for a formative assessment.

Artifact 18 Targeted Feedback

PSC Online Teaching Endorsement Standards:
Candidates will provide timely, constructive feedback to student assignments. (II.ii.VI)

Reflection: (100-125 words) Reflect on why the artifact is important to online teaching, how it demonstrates mastery
of the standards given, and how it contributes to your understanding of online teaching and learning.

This artifact is important because it shows that there are tools available
for teachers to use that allow them to give instant feedback when
students submit work. Actively Learn allows a teacher to give a grade
but also provide comments on how that student can improve their score
in order to meet the standard given. This artifact meets the standard
because it shows that the teacher can give more feedback to a student
other than just a grade and its important for students to know how they
can improve on their work. A quick comment in this tech tool or on a
discussion post in Eclass can help elevate a students learning. This
helped me understand that in the online environment its important for
teachers to use tools that give quick feedback on assignments just like
they would if the student was doing the work in front of them in the
traditional classroom so that they can make the proper adjustments.

Artifact 19 Quiz/Test
PSC Online Teaching Endorsement Standards:
Candidates will provide continuous evaluation of students, to include pre- and post- testing as well as
student input throughout the course. (II.v.IV)
Candidates will review student responses to test items in online testing software to identify issues in
testing or pedagogical strategies. (III.iii.II)

Reflection: (100-125 words) Reflect on why the artifact is important to online teaching, how it demonstrates mastery
of the standards given, and how it contributes to your understanding of online teaching and learning.

These artifacts are important because it shows that there are a variety
of options with tech tools to provide assessments to gauge student
learning. These examples from Actively Learn show writing assessments
to gauge the overall knowledge of the novel that was read and
discussed during class. I wanted students to show through writing how
everything they learned can be explained through textual evidence from
the text. This meets the standard by providing students an option
through technology to test their knowledge and for the teacher to be
able to evaluate it immediately and give proper feedback. This helped
my understanding by showing me when creating assessments its
important to choose tools that will allow the teacher to give timely
feedback on students work and be able to adjust their teaching based
on what they found through the assessments.

Artifact 20 Gradebook
PSC Online Teaching Endorsement Standards:
Candidate will apply technology to increase productivity. (II.i.X)

Reflection: (100-125 words) Reflect on why the artifact is important to online teaching, how it demonstrates mastery
of the standards given, and how it contributes to your understanding of online teaching and learning.

These artifacts are important because it shows that there are a variety
of options with tech tools to track student progress and grades within
the online environment. Student work in each of these tools is
calculated and posted immediately so that the teacher can help those
that seem to be struggling with content and those that need more
challenge. It meets that standards by having data to track student work
so that the teacher can communicate needs with that student and
parents and how the student can boost productivity based on the data.
All of the gradebooks used for the unit can be synched together making
it easy to keep up with student progress. This helped my understanding
because it showed that there are many tools available for teachers to
use that offer some type of grading system so that teachers can keep up

with student progress. Its important for the online teacher to use these
types of tools in their classes.

Artifact 21 Tracking Tools

PSC Online Teaching Endorsement Standards:
Candidates will demonstrate awareness of observational data (i.e., tracking data in electronic courses,
web logs, email, etc.) and its uses in monitoring course progress and effectiveness. (III.iii.III)

Student work in each of these tools is
calculated and posted immediately so that the teacher can help those
that seem to be struggling with content and those that need more
challenge. The tools also show the teacher how much time is spent
working on the assignment so that the teacher can communicate to the
student if task management is an issue. It meets that standards by
having data to track student work so that the teacher can communicate
needs with that student and parents and how the student can boost
productivity based on the data. All of the gradebooks used for the unit
can be synched together making it easy to keep up with student
progress towards mastering standards in the course. This helped my
understanding because it showed that there are many tools available for
teachers to use that offer some type of tracking system so that teachers
can keep up with student progress. Its important for the online teacher
to use these types of tools in their classes.

Artifact 22 Technical Support

PSC Online Teaching Endorsement Standards:
Candidate will troubleshoot typical software and hardware problems. (I.i.V)

Reflection: (100-125 words) Reflect on why the artifact is important to online teaching, how it demonstrates mastery
of the standards given, and how it contributes to your understanding of online teaching and learning.

These artifacts are important because it shows that there are a variety
of help options with the tech tools used in the online environment to
troubleshoot any problems that could come up. Google, Actively Learn
and Eclass all have help centers that can guide a teacher through a
problem. The help can be attained by searching for the issue with the
solution, chatting online with an assistant or by phone if the need
should arise. This meets the standard because the online instructor
should be aware of any issues that might come up and have a plan to fix
it. This contributed to my learning by showing me that its important to
have quality technical support on tools that one chooses to use in the
online environment. Issues come up and if there is not an efficient way
to communicate those and fix them then the tool might not be worth
using in the course.

Artifact 23 Acceptable Use

PSC Online Teaching Endorsement Standards:
Candidates will use appropriate strategies and resources for dealing with student issues arising from
inappropriate use of electronically-accessed data or information. (II.iii.VI)

Reflection: (100-125 words) Reflect on why the artifact is important to online teaching, how it demonstrates mastery
of the standards given, and how it contributes to your understanding of online teaching and learning.

These artifacts are important because it shows that the teacher needs
to communicate how to appropriately use technology in the online
environment. Students need to be aware of expectations in the online
classroom and its important for the teacher to address those from the
beginning. By providing resources and strategies to promote acceptable
use the teacher is following the standards set forth. This contributed to
my understanding by teaching me that there are many strategies and
resources available for students to understand how to use technology
and that they should be addressed to students and parents before the
course begins. This will help prevent future problems and possible
blame on the teacher if a big problem came up.

Artifact 24 Course/Teacher Evaluation

PSC Online Teaching Endorsement Standards:
Candidates will provide opportunities for evaluating teaching effectiveness within the online
environment (i.e., classroom assessment techniques, teacher evaluations, teacher peer reviews).
(III.iii.IV)

Reflection: (100-125 words) Reflect on why the artifact is important to online teaching, how it demonstrates mastery
of the standards given, and how it contributes to your understanding of online teaching and learning.

These artifacts are important because it shows that the teacher needs
to get feedback from a variety of sources to help improve their online
course. By having some sort of feedback the teacher can hear others
opinions on the good and bad of the course that they might have missed
without peer and student feedback. Its important for the teacher in the
online environment to improve just like the traditional teacher so
feedback from those involved in the course as well as administrators can
help facilitate that growth. This helped my understanding of online
teaching because just like the traditional teacher, its key to know what
your strengths and weaknesses are in the classroom so that you can
improve and provide a more engaging and authentic learning experience
for your students.
