RVT:

The residual voltage that is developed is equal to three times the zero sequence voltage.
For zero sequence flux to be developed in the VT for the measurement of the residual
voltage, there must be a return path for the summated flux. In the usual three-phase, core
type transformers, such a path is not available and residual VTs are therefore provided
With five limbs; the two outermost limbs being un-wound and providing a return path for the
zero sequence flux.
However, when three single phase VTs are used in order to obtain the residual voltage, no
extra limbs are required to be provided as each single phase VT has a core with a closed
magnetic path.

The voltage of common junction point with respect to ground is neutral voltage. From this
definition follows an important fact The zero sequence voltage at any point in network
Corresponds to the neutral shift at that point in the network. From Fig 1,

CR4:
Difference Between Neutral Voltage (Vn) and Zero Sequence Voltage (V0)
Neutral voltage is the net resultant of the vectorial summation of the voltages of all the 3
phases. This is observed during un-balanced loading of the 3 phases or due to the
DIFFERENCE in leakage inductance of the line at any sub-station supplying industrial loads
.The neutral voltage is expected to be limited up to 5 - 10 % .
The Zero sequence voltage is the voltage with no phase difference with respect to any of
the phases . The Zero sequence voltage flowing in all the 3 phases has no no phase
difference . The zero sequence voltage can flow in the winding of the 3 phase machine
simultaneously with no phase difference . IT can also flow in the metallic enclosure of the
machine . It is pre-dominantly observed during the LINE - GROUND fault .
Research Gate:
The neutral shift is the deviation of the potential of the loads neutral point in respect to
system neutral, which ideally, should be very close to zero volts in respect to true earth
ground potential.
