PSALM 107:PROTESTING OR
THANKSGIVING
“People are going to have to die!” These were not the words of Patrick Henry prior
to the American Revolution, but the words of a student protester two days after the
General Election. Thousands of students and others took to the streets across the
country to rail against not just Donald Trump but those who had voted for him.
One student asked a Chicago police officer, “Where is your KKK hood?" Many
universities took the usual hyper-sensitivity approach by providing therapy dogs,
playdough, crayons and later gym hours for students. Ah, the dangers of democracy!
In order to have a free republic, we must be willing to abide by election results,
whether we like them or not. We must get on with building a better nation in a
peaceful transition of power. Earlier in the year over 70% ot Americans believed
that our nation was headed in the wrong direction. Frustration fueled voting,
Some polls showed that 81% of “evangelicals” voted as good citizens, primarily
concerned about platform more than personality or party.
Now itis our job to be biblical and prayerful, regardless of what you feel about the
new president, the election results, or about any who disagree with you. We make
“supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thankegivings for all who are in high
positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet lite, godly and dignified in every
way" (1 Timothy 2:1, 2). We pray that President Elect Trump will move beyond
business success to statesmanship, that “the leader of the free world" will sense
more than ever his need for the Lord of all the world. It has been said, "The office
makes the man more than the man makes the office." May the Lord do the
molding. Pray that the President will enlist wise and godly people for his cabinet
and team. Pray for national unity in our Union of states.
The pilgrims of Plymouth would never be derided as “cupcakes or snowflakes."
They chose to shine and not whine in spite of the death of many of their number
ina difficult winter. They clung to Isaiah 41:10, “Fear not, for | arn with you, be not
dismayed, for | am your God; | will strengthen you, | will help you, | will uphold
you with My victorious right hand.” Join us this Sunday evening for our annual
hanksgiving Morship ervice as we express gratitude and praise in one of the
sweetest and most unitying events of the year. ;
