Cause and Remedies of Blurred Vision

Is your vision lacking sharpness and clarity? Cant you make out the fine details? Then, that is an
indication of Blurred Vision. Blurry Vision is the loss of sharpness in vision, it may be experienced in
one or both the eyes.
Blurred Vision is the result of minor eye problems like nearsightedness and wearing the wrong
eyeglasses. It is also a normal sign of aging. Additionally, blurred Vision also results from eye
problems like infection, inflammation, trauma, malignancy, and any other problem. Thus, it is best to
consult an ophthalmologist in case of any vision problems
Causes of Blurred Vision and how it progresses
Some of the very common causes of Blurred Vision are summed up below:
1)Glaucoma: It is a disease occurring due to pressure on eyes damaging the optic nerve. It can
progress gradually or suddenly. Spot vision, blurred vision, blinking, and double vision are some of the
symptoms of glaucoma. Like other eye diseases, glaucoma also progresses with age. Treatment of
glaucoma depends upon the severity of the condition. There is no cure as such for glaucoma but it can
surely be controlled. Several eye drops, medicines and drips are given to cure vision. In the prolonged
stage, even laser procedures and surgical operations are carried out to cure the condition.
Trabeculoplasty is a laser treatment to control eye pressure. In surgical procedures a bypass drainage
channel for the eye fluid to leave the eye is made which further reduces the eye pressure. Its always
good to consult a ophthalmologist in case of any signs of glaucoma as it prevents from disease
progression.
2)Diabetic eye Disease: It includes a series of condition that affects vision of people with diabetes
adversely. A diabetic patient may suffer from diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macular edema, cataract,
and glaucoma. All these forms have the potential to cause blurred vision and even blindness. In
diabetic retinopathy, the retinal blood vessels are changed, causing bleeding and further leading to
distorted vision. Another condition, diabetic macular edema is a consequence of diabetic retinopathy
causing swelling in retinal area(macular). The long term treatment of these diseases is to take
medications, stay active, and maintain a healthy diet. These lifestyle changes prevent and delay vision
loss. The treatment of retinopathy involves administration of injections and surgery. Anti-VEGF
Injection Therapy works by administrating injection into the eyes to block the hormone responsible for
blood vessel leak. The surgery for retinopathy is called focal macular laser surgery in which few burns
are made in the leaking blood vessels to prevent edema. Third treatment is Corticosteroids, which are
implanted or injected into the eyes to treat a series of diabetic conditions.

3)Myopia and Hyperopia: Blurry Vision may also be a sign of nearsightedness or farsightedness.
Myopia is a common refractive error that causes object at a distance to become blurred. Whereas,
hyperopia or hypermetropia is a condition when distant objects can be seen, but the eye cant focus
properly causing blurred vision and eye strain. Both the conditions are common and also curable.
Wearing eyeglasses and contact lenses is a common cure. Additionally Laser-assisted in situ
keratomileusis (LASIK) and Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) surgery can also be performed to cure
the condition.
4)Cataracts: It is the lesion of the retina or the clouding of the eye lens. Usually, it occurs due to high
pressure in the eye. The disease progresses with age. A Cataract Surgery is required to overcome this
illness. In the process, cloudy vision gets replaced by an artificial lens called the intraocular lens to
restore clear vision.
Today cataract surgery is available in most of the hospitals. The costs of cataract surgery in India have
dropped drastically. Government is also playing a key role by carrying out campaigns every year to
provide free cataract implants to poor patients. The cost majorly depends on the lens implanted.

Remedies for Blurred Vision
Blurred Vision at the initial stages is controllable by medications, changes in eating habits, and by
performing eye exercises. Below are the sequenced strategies that should be adopted to control blurred
vision and subsequent loss of eyesight. Even for patients who are not suffering from any vision
problem adapting lifestyle changes and exercises prove beneficial in the long run for maintaining
healthy eyesight.
1. Eating Habits: Liquorice root and Chicory root are an excellent cure for vision problems. Both
of them are rich in Vitamin A thus, good for the optic system. Including vegetables like
spinach, milk, carrot, cabbage, soaked almonds, and honey are other foods that cause
improvement of vision.
2. Acupressure therapy: Malfunctioning of the eye is closely related to liver and kidney
problems. As per Acupressure therapy, there are many Acupuncture points surrounding the eyes
that can be helpful to cure vision. Massage each of the point for about five to ten seconds. You
can do it several times in a day for desirable results.
3. Eye Exercises: Blinking is a basic exercise that rests the eye muscles, circulates moisture, and
keeps the eyes relaxed. Blink and hold it firmly for two seconds. The exercise can be done
several times depending upon your exposure to TV or computer screen. Another exercise on the
list is rolling your eyes. This exercise circulates moisture and refreshes the eye. Roll your eyes
in a clockwise direction for a few second. Next, roll them anticlockwise for a few seconds. In
between after every set blink your eyes. Rolling up the eyes tones the eye muscles and
circulates blood flow and oxygen around the eye. Follow the exercise for at least 15-20 times.

4. Soothing therapies: Application of food items that make the eyes fresh and fatigue free are
prone to increase the quality of vision indirectly. For example, applying grated potato or potato
juice is best to relief the eye pain and swelling. Additionally cucumber, potato, and rose water
application are also proven techniques for improving vision.
