Recap
Last week, we saw that although Naomi had nothing, Ruth was resolute in her heart to follow Naomi
and Naomi’s God, her Lord. Therefore, God had a very important plan in Ruth and wanted to use her
greatly.
Introduction
Thereafter, Naomi and Ruth returned to Bethlehem in Israel. In order to earn a living to support Naomi,
Ruth went to the fields to pick up the leftover grains. Later, Naomi found out that the field that Ruth
went to belonged to the relative of her late husband named Boaz. He was a wealthy owner who was
quite mature in age and a person who loved God and God’s people. When Naomi and her husband
left Israel, they lost all they had outside. Even their two sons were dead and she had nothing left.
Boaz was one of her kinsman-redeemers. Only he could help Naomi restore all that she had lost. [At
that time, one could only get back one’s inheritance when one had a son.] Boaz knew that Ruth had a
heart that loved her mother-in-law and so he continued to let her work in his fields and collect grains.
Naomi saw that Boaz liked Ruth and that he treated her with kindness. She hence directed Ruth to
see him. One night, when Boaz was asleep next to the grain pile, Ruth approached quietly,
uncovered his feet and lay down. Boaz woke up, startled, in the middle of the night when he saw Ruth
lying at his feet. Ruth told him, “You are a kinsman-redeemer, could you spread the corner of your
garment over me?” [which means, to marry her]. Boaz saw that Ruth was a virtuous woman and that
she did not pursue young men, Boaz hence agreed. Therefore, Boaz married Ruth as his wife and
allowed Naomi and Ruth to get back all their inheritance in Israel. Together, Boaz and Ruth gave birth
to a child named Obed and Obed gave birth to Jesse. Jesse gave birth to great King David.

1. Boaz represented Jesus Christ

1) Just as Boaz was the kinsman-redeemer of Ruth, Jesus Christ is one who saves our
relatives. He is our savior.
2) Although Ruth was a Gentile and did not know God, Boaz liked her and helped her.
Similarly, although we do not know Jesus Christ in the past, because the Lord Jesus
Christ has already loved us since the creation of the world, He came to save us.
Today, because He loves us, He often helps us.
3) Boaz was the one who helped Ruth get back her inheritance and together, they gave
birth to a blessed child, Obed. Obed then gave birth to Jesse and Jesse gave birth to
the great King David. Similarly, today, the Lord Jesus Christ saves us and gives us
our inheritance. Through us, we give birth to children who are like King David who
know clearly and believe in Jesus Christ.

2. Ruth represented the people who believe and know Jesus Christ
1) Ruth was a widow who lost her husband. She was considered the worst failure in the
world as she had nothing. We are the same, when we were born to this world, we did
not know God, we did not know ourselves, and were completely bound by the devil,
Satan.
2) Ruth was blessed and loved by God. Therefore, she had beside her, a mother-in-law,
Naomi, who knew God. No matter how much suffering Ruth was in, she did not leave
Naomi. Through Naomi, she got closed to Boaz. Similarly, because God loves us, He
places us next to people who know God (e.g. our parents or friends), and because of
them, we will always hear God and be touched. Therefore, through them, we get to
go to church and know Jesus Christ one day.
3) Ruth did not like other young men but liked Boaz because she was the kinsman-
redeemer. Similarly, when we hear the gospel of Jesus Christ, we are not willing to
follow the world and all that is in the world. But we are willing to follow the Lord Jesus
Christ, and for the rest of our lives, use the inheritance that He has given us to save
people, heal people and bless people.

3. Boaz married Ruth, allowing her to restore all her inheritance. Similarly, Jesus
Christ saves us, and allows to us restore all of God’s blessings
1) Although Ruth was a total failure but because Boaz married her, she became a
person who was most well-known and most envied in Bethlehem. Similarly, before
we knew Jesus Christ in the past, we were in failure and Satan and the world bind us.
But now that we Jesus Christ, we need not be fearful or look down on ourselves,
because we are the most successful person!
2) After Ruth married Boaz, she gave birth to Jesse, allowing her mother-in-law who
was a failure to recover all her inheritance. Similarly, when we know and believe in
Jesus Christ, we pray for our family members and the loved ones beside us, they will
also receive the grace and blessings from God.
3) Ruth and Boaz gave birth to Obed, and later Obed gave birth to Jesse and Jesse
gave birth to the great King David who saved and blessed the whole Israel. Similarly,
when we walk with our Lord, Jesus Christ, serve Him and tell others about Him, and
pass this down one generation after another, many people like David who know God
will rise up to save and bless all of God’s people.
