INCREASE CIVIC PRIDE
Show your citizens their city in a new light. Whether a
public building, or a treasured monument, Lucalox lighting
systems bathe landmarks in a soft, warm glow of light that
can awaken a new sense of civic pride. Ny'onuments
become works of art, and older buildings seem to take on
a new dimension at night.
STIMULATE NIGHT-TIME ACTIVITIES DOWNTOWN
Downtown s the economic tax base for most cities.
Wilh efficient Luca ox ighting, downtown can again
extend warm, friendly greetings for social, polilical, and
economic functions. Good lighting offers the citizens of
your community maximum use of their after-work hours in
a safe and attractive envrronment.
REDUCE TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS
While only 33 percent of total highway travel occurs atter
dark, 60 percent of all fatal accidents occur during this
time. Poor or improperly lighted streets are often the
reason. Efficient, even illumination from Lucalox lighting
systems provides drivers with better visibility, less
confusion and helps reduce accjdents and save Iives.

5 UTILIZE ENERGY MORE EFFICIENTLY

For the same amount of power, Lucalox lighting systems

provide twice as much light as comparable mercury
lighting . . . and better than six times as much as
incandescent. The result is more light for the tax dollar.
A Lucalox lighting system is an excellent way to serve the
public while keeping the city budget in balance.
EXTEND NIGHT-TIME HOURS IN PUBLIC PLACES
Lucalox lighting systems can provide extra hours of
enjoyment in city parks, playgrounds, and recreational
facilities. Also, Lucalox-lighted public areas stand out as a
shining example of munacjpal concern for evening
recreation. With increased hours of night-time leisure,
Lucalox lighting helps a commun jty make its lacilities
available for youth, young adults, middle aged and senior
citizens.

LUCALOX_
THE EFFICIENT LIGHT SOURCE
When General Electric introduced the Lucalox lamp
in 1965, it was ha ed as the "Third Age of L ght"
as important as incandescent and fluorescent lamps

before

rt.

Continual mprovement and upgrading has made

the lamp today's most efficient and economical source
of whlte light available.

RELIABLE

Today, the rated lfe of a 400 wa11 Lucalox

TWICE THE LIGHT OUTPUT OF MERCURY The inltial
light output of a 400-watt De uxe-White mercury lamp is
22,500 lurnens. This compares to 50,000 lumens for a
400-watt Lucalox amp. This means you can attain the same
leve of lightwith substantiallyfewerunits using Lucalox. Or

you can at least doub e light evels with Lucalox at no

increase in power consumption.

light control from the luminaire's optical assembly, which

serves to minimize glare. This fact, plus the warm, true
color rendition of the lamp itself makes Lucalox lighting
pleasant and comfortable in a nearly infinite variety of
applicatlons.
MORE ECONOMICAL OPERATION Since the Lucalox
larnp provides higher levels of light while consuming no
more electricity, it has clear economic advantages.
Lucalox lighting requires a more sophisticated control
system, but provides greater efliciency and economy for
lhe total maintained cost of light.

POWR/DOOR@THE YEARS-AHEAD LUMINAIRE

ln the relatively short time that the Lucalox lamp has

been in existence, GE's Lighting System engineers have
designed and built thousands of high quality and timetested Lucalox luminaires.
The success of these systems depends on a highly
reliable ballast design coupied with a sophisticated
optical assembly for proper distribution of the high
pressure sodium Lucalox lamp.
GE's Powr/Door uminalre is the perfect complement to
the Lucalox lamp in terms of protecting your lighting
rnvestrnent.

The Powr/Door luminaire is designed to provide faster

nstallation, ease of maintenance, and
by means of the
exc Lrsive Powr/l\,4odule@ ballast assernb- y
- complete
flexibility for all HID ight sources.
Here are the features that make GE Powr/Door luminaires
your best long-term Lucalox investment.

THE POWR/MODULE BALLAST ASSEMBLY ofieTs

-.oa al'eled lex b'liry. By rooseling ore screw,
the entire Powr/l\,4odule ballast assembly can be
removed and replaced with a different Powr/lvlodule
ballast assembly for upgrading 10 other light
sources. For ease of installat on. the lurf naire
welght s reduced by one-half when the Powr/l\y'odule
ballast assembly has been removed.
THE TWO-BOLT SLIPFITTEF means fewer man
hours for system installat on. This feature allows the
lurninaire to be easily slipped on the bracket ano
leveled from inside or outside in seconds.
THE ASTRODOME@ PHOTOELECTRIC CONTROL is
mounted inside the luminaire housinq for better
appearance and protection lrom the outside
elements. From its secure position, it turns the light
on at dusk and off at dawn.

THE LUCALOX BALLAST is a time-proven control

system designed wrth the same basic matelals used
for over 25 years in all HID ballasts. lts precision
wound coil and special laminated magnetic steel
core are protected by a high grade insulation system
to provide total system rellability.
THE TERMINAL BOARD, with its protective barriers
between connect ons, offers tmproved safety durino
installalion and mainlenance. lt is easily access ble
and provides a positive, permanent gr p on eilher
copper or alumrnum leads to better utilize competent
manpower.
THE ACTIVATED CHABCOAL FILTER maintains
high light output by filterlng the air that enters the
opt ca assembly. Since air must flow in and out
as the arnp heats and coois, it is irnportant that
conlaminated air not be aliowed to leave dlrt
particles on the reflector, Iamp, or ins de of the
refractor.

THE LAMP SOCKET is adjustable to 12 different

positions for maximum light distribution flexibllity.
Different light sources require different lamp socket
positions to achieve the desired iight distribution.
This unique fealure is of maximum importance to
protect your long term investment.

ETHYLENE-PROPYLENE DIENE-MOMOMER
(EPDM) GASKET. . . seals the optica assembly,
making outside air pass through the activated
charcoal filter, letting the f ter do its work.
THE REFRACTOR DOOR allows entry to the optical
assembly for convenient cleaning and relamping.
With the two-door concept, no electrical components
are exposed when performjng routine lamp
maintenance.

THE REFRACTOR controls the light precisely to

a d pedestrian visual comfort. This large refractor
optlmizes the clear arc sources such as Lucalox to
spread the light evenly up and down the liluminated
surface.
