The plane lands at the airport. The passengers leave


the plane. They wait for the bus to the customs
building. A woman asks John for the time.

The customs agent then talks to Mary Hill.

A bus takes the passengers to the customs building.
The bus stops at the entrance to the building. The
porters take the luggage from the bus to the
customs desk. The passengers follow the porters.
They take their ID.

Are you an American Citizen, too?


Yes, I am.
What's your occupation?

John and Mary arrive at the customs desk. John


keeps his passport in the pocket of his coat. He takes
his ID out of his pocket. Mary takes her ID out of her
handbag. The customs agent checks the ID.

I'm a teacher in a school


Are you in New York on vacation?

Good morning.
Yes, we are.
Good morning.
The customs agent is friendly. He gives the ID back
to Mary and John. A porter brings their luggage.
They look for a taxi. They want to go to the hotel in a
taxi.

It is raining. John and Mary are in a taxi. The taxi


stops at the door of the hotel. The hotel porter takes
the luggage into the lobby. He returns from the
hotel with an umbrella and opens the door of the
taxi for Mary and John. Mary gets out of the taxi
and follows the porter into the hotel. John pays the
taxi driver.

Present Progressive (Continuous)


The progressive tenses give the idea that an action is in progress during a particular time.
The tenses say that an action begins before, is in progress during, and continues after
another time or action.
Examples:
It is raining.
She is sitting.
Susan is writing another book this year.

Verbs that end in a


consonant and -e
