Snow White and The Huntsman Summary

Once upon a time, King Magnus and his Queen have a beautiful daughter, Snow White, who
is raised with her best friend William. When the Queen passes away, the King grieves her
death but has to fight against a dark invader army. He rescues a beautiful prisoner,
Ravenna, and on the next day he marries her. On the wedding night, Ravenna stabs King
Magnus in the chest and brings the enemy army led by her brother Finn that destroys the
King's army. Ravenna imprisons Snow White in the Northern Tower of the castle while
William, his father The Duke and a few survivors escape from the castle. Years later, the
kingdom is completely depleted and Queen Ravenna, who is an evil witch, keeps her beauty
by draining the youth of young ladies. When the Magic Mirror tells that Snow White would
be the source of her immortality, she asks Finn to bring the princess to her. However, Snow
White escapes and flees to the Dark Forest. Queen Ravenna brings a Huntsman that misses
his wife and she promises to bring her back to life provided he catches and brings Snow
White to her. But when he captures Snow White, he discovers that the evil Queen lied to
him and he becomes the protector of the princess. Meanwhile William learns that Snow
White is alive and he heads to join Finn's men to meet her. The Huntsman and Snow White
meet the eight dwarfs that bring them to the magic Fairytale Land. When they are attacked
by Finn and his men, William also finds them and the group heads to the Duke's castle with
the intention of beginning an uprising against the evil Ravenna.

Snow White (Kristen Stewart) is the princess of Tabor, daughter of King Magnus (Noah Huntley) and
Queen Eleanor (Liberty Ross). After his wife's death, King Magnus marries the beautiful Ravenna
(Charlize Theron) after rescuing her from the Dark Army, an invading force of glass soldiers. Ravenna
who is in fact a powerful sorceress and the Dark Army's master kills Magnus on their wedding night after
noting that men like him exploit the beauty of women and discard them. As Ravenna seizes control of the
kingdom, Duke Hammond (Vincent Regan) escapes the Castle with his son William, but is unable to save
Snow White who is captured by Ravenna's brother Finn (Sam Spruell). Snow White is then locked away
in a tower of the Castle.
Tabor is left in ruins under Ravenna's rule as she periodically drains the youth from young women in order
to maintain a spell once cast by her mother which allows her to keep her beauty. When Snow White
comes of age, Ravenna learns from her Magic Mirror (Christopher Obi Ogugua) that Snow White is
destined to destroy her unless Ravenna consumes the young girl's heart which will make her immortal.
Ravenna orders Finn to bring her Snow White but she escapes into the Dark Forest, where Ravenna has
no power. Eric the Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth), a drunken widower who has survived the Dark Forest,
is brought to Ravenna who orders him to lead Finn in pursuit of Snow White. In exchange she promises to
revive his deceased wife Sarah. Duke Hammond learns that Snow White is alive and has fled into the
Dark Forest, and his son William (Sam Claflin), Snow White's childhood friend, later infiltrates Finn's band
as a bowman to find her.
The Huntsman locates Snow White in the Dark Forest, but Finn admits that Ravenna cannot resurrect the
dead. The Huntsman then helps Snow White to escape, promising to escort her to Duke Hammond's
Castle in exchange for a reward of gold. The two leave the Dark Forest, crossing a bridge where a troll
resides. He's big & mean & ugly, but Snow White is able to calm him...this is an indication of things to
come. they come across a fishing village where all the women have disfigured themselves in order to
escape Ravenna, and where he learns Snow White's true identity. They are taken in, but he then leaves
her in the care of the women, saying she's better off without him; he returns when he sees the village
being attacked & burned by Finn's men. Snow White and the Huntsman escape w/ the blessings of the
women of the village & eventually come upon a band of dwarves, formed by Muir (Bob Hoskins), Beith
(Ian McShane), Gort (Ray Winstone), Coll (Toby Jones), Duir (Eddie Marsan), Quert (Johnny Harris), Nion
(Nick Frost), and Gus (Brian Gleeson). Muir discovers Snow White's identity as the only person who can

defeat Ravenna and end her reign.

As they travel through a faerie sanctuary, snow white's importance in the scheme of things becomes more
apparent. When she follows some faeries thru the woods, she comes across a magnificent white stag,
who blesses her, according to Muir, who also says she is life itself & will heal the kingdom. Suddenly an
arrow pierces the stag's side & the group is attacked by Finn's men, resulting in Gus's death when he
jumps in front of Snow White to prevent an arrow from hitting her. The Huntsman kills Finn after learning
he abetted in the murder of his wife Sarah; this has a negative effect on Ravenna. William reveals himself
and helps defeat the soldiers before joining the others in their journey to Hammond's castle.
Ravenna disguises herself as William and tempts Snow White into eating a poisoned apple (& why is
there snow all of a sudden?), but is forced to flee as a cloud of ravens when the Huntsman and William
discover her. The ravens return to Tabor thru a hole in the roof, falling dead to the floor, while Ravenna
evolves from the black ooze. William kisses the now comatose Snow White without seeing that a single
tear has fallen. Her corpse is taken to Hammond's Castle. As she lies in repose, the Huntsman professes
his love and regret for not saving Snow White who reminds him of his wife and kisses her, breaking the
spell as she awakens after a second tear falls. Snow White gives a rousing speech in the keep, then
takes command of the Duke's army and leads them into battle against Ravenna. We see Ravenna hale &
young again amid a litter of dead women...obviously, her cure works.
As the army approaches the castle, the defenders let loose a volley of flaming balls, while the Dwarves
infiltrate Tabor through the sewers & skulk around inside the keep, disabling guards & gaining entry to the
gate mechanism, thus allowing the Duke's army to invade the Castle. Snow White makes her way to the
top of the castle tower & confronts Ravenna, just as William, the huntsman & the duke's soldiers arrive.
Ravenna causes the ceiling in the hall over the soldiers to turn into shards of sharp, black glass. The
soldiers use their shields to keep from getting cut to ribbons, but the shards form into fighting monsters.
While the soldiers are thus occupied, Snow fights the queen, who overpowers her. She is prepared to kill
Snow and consume her heart when, using a move the huntsman taught her, Snow White stabs her in the
heart instead, causing Ravenna to wither and die. Hammond's army is victorious. Snow White is crowned
Queen as the kingdom is restored. Many poignant looks ensue between her & the huntsman...hmmm
SPIDER MAN (2002)

High-school senior Peter Parker lives with his Aunt May and Uncle Ben, and is a school outcast and
bully victim. On a school field trip, he visits a genetics laboratory with his friend Harry Osborn and
unwitting love interest Mary Jane Watson. There, Peter is bitten by a genetically engineered "super
spider." Shortly after arriving home, he becomes ill and falls unconscious. Meanwhile, Harry's father,
scientist Norman Osborn, owner of Oscorp, is trying to secure an important military weapons
contract. He experiments on himself with an unstable performance-enhancing chemical. After
absorbing the chemical, he goes insane, kills his assistant and destroys the laboratory.
The next morning, Peter finds that he is no longer near-sighted, and his body
has metamorphosized into a more muscular physique. At school, he finds that his body can produce
webs from the wrists, and his quickened reflexes let him avoid injury during a confrontation
with Flash Thompson. Peter discovers he has developed superhuman speed, strength, the ability to
stick to surfaces, and a heightened ability to sense danger.
Brushing off Ben's advice that "with great power comes great responsibility," Peter considers
impressing Mary Jane with a car. He enters an underground wrestling tournament and wins his first

match, but the promoter cheats him out of his prize money. When a thief suddenly raids the
promoter's office, Peter allows him to escape as payback. Moments later, he discovers that Ben has
been carjacked and shot, dying in Peter's arms. Peter pursues, subdues and confronts the carjacker,
only to realize it was the thief he let escape. The thief attempts to flee but falls from a window and
dies. Meanwhile, a crazed Norman interrupts a military experiment and, using weaponry from his
research, kills several scientists and the military's General Slocum.
Upon graduating, Peter begins using his abilities to fight crime, donning a costume and the persona
of Spider-Man. J. Jonah Jameson, a newspaper chief editor, hires Peter as
a freelance photographer, since he is the only person providing clear images of Spider-Man.
Norman, upon learning Oscorp's board members plan to sell the company, attacks them at the World
Unity Fair. Peter intervenes as Spider-Man, but not before Norman kills the board members.
Jameson quickly dubs the mysterious killer the Green Goblin. The Goblin offers Spider-Man a place
at his side, but Spider-Man refuses. They fight, and Spider-Man is wounded. At Thanksgiving dinner,
May invites Mary Jane and the Osborns. During the dinner, Norman sees the wound and deduces
Spider-Man's identity. Shortly after he leaves, the Green Goblin attacks, and hospitalizes May.
Mary Jane admits to Peter she is infatuated with Spider-Man, who has rescued her on numerous
occasions, and asks Peter whether Spider-Man ever asked about her. Harry, who loves Mary Jane,
arrives and interprets that she has feelings for Peter. Defeated, Harry laments to his father that Peter
loves Mary Jane, unintentionally revealing Spider-Man's weakness.
The Goblin kidnaps and holds Mary Jane and a Roosevelt Island Tram car full of children hostage
alongside the Queensboro Bridge, challenging Peter to another confrontation. He forces Spider-Man
to choose whom to save, and drops Mary Jane and the children. Spider-Man manages to save both
Mary Jane and the tram car, while the Goblin is pelted and heckled by civilians who have sided with
Spider-Man. The Goblin then redirects the fight into an abandoned building where they battle in a
lengthy brutal and violent harsh fight. After a severe beating Peter manages to overpower the Goblin,
Norman reveals himself to Spider-Man to halt the fight. He begs for forgiveness, but at the same time
programs his glider to impale his foe from behind. Sensing the danger, Spider-Man instinctively
dodges, and the glider impales Norman. As he dies, Norman asks Peter not to tell Harry of the
Green Goblin's identity. Spider-Man takes Norman's body back to his house. Harry arrives to find
Spider-Man standing over his father's body and believes him to have murdered his father.
At Normans funeral, Harry swears vengeance toward Spider-Man, whom he deems responsible for
his father's death, and asserts that Peter is all the family he has left. Mary Jane confesses to Peter
that she is in love with him. Peter, however, feels that he must protect her from the unwanted
attentions of Spider-Man's enemies. He hides his true feelings, and tells Mary Jane that they can
only be friends. As Peter leaves the funeral, he recalls Ben's words, and accepts his new
responsibility as Spider-Man.

Cast[edit]
"I felt like I was an outsider. I think what happened to me made me develop this street
sense of watching people and working out what made them tick, wondering whether I
could trust them or not. I went to a lot of schools along the coast in California, made few
friends and stayed with aunts, uncles and grandparents while my folks tried to make
ends meet. It was tough. We had no money."
Tobey Maguire on identifying with Peter Parker[3]

Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker / Spider-Man

Peter is an academically brilliant but socially inept boy who is bitten by a genetically
modified spider and gains spider-like abilities. Maguire was cast as Peter in July 2000,
[4]

having been Raimi's primary choice for the role after he saw The Cider House Rules.[5] The

studio was initially hesitant to cast someone who did not seem to fit the ranks of "adrenalinepumping, tail-kicking titans",[4] but Maguire managed to impress studio executives with his
audition. The actor was signed for a deal in the range of $3 to $4 million with higher salary
options for two sequels.[4] To prepare, Maguire was trained by a physical trainer, a yoga
instructor, a martial arts expert, and a climbing expert, taking several months to improve his
physique.[6] Maguire studied spiders and worked with a wire man to simulate the arachnidlike
motion, and had a special diet.[7] The studio had expressed interest in actors Leonardo
DiCaprio, Edward Furlong, Freddie Prinze, Jr.,[8] Chris Klein, Wes Bentley, and Heath Ledger.
[9]

Edward Furlong had been considered by James Cameron for the role in 1996,[10] while

Raimi joked of Prinze that "[he] won't even be allowed to buy a ticket to see this film." [9] In
addition, actors Scott Speedman, Jay Rodan, and James Franco were involved in screen
tests for the lead role with Franco later being cast as Harry Osborn.[11]

Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson

The girl whom Peter Parker has developed a crush since he was six years old. Mary Jane
has an abusive father, and aspires to become an actress, but becomes a waitress at a run
down diner, a fact she hides from her boyfriend, Harry. Before Raimi cast Dunst, he had
expressed his interest in casting Alicia Witt.[12] Dunst decided to audition after learning
Maguire had been cast, feeling the film would have a more independent feel.[13] Dunst earned
the role a month before shooting in an audition in Berlin.[9]
