Explanation of the OSH Safety Policy

In generating the policy of our company there are certain criteria


that highlighted to be a part of our company policy. For the company that
concerned in minimizing the risk of injury, property and environment, we
believed that this highlighted criteria can be the guidelines for the
company.

Comply with the applicable OSH legal and other


requirements.
Under the OSH Act, employers are responsible for providing a
safe and healthful workplace. OSHAs mission is to assure safe and
healthful workplaces by setting and enforcing standards and by
providing training, outreach, education and assistance. Employers
must comply with all applicable OSHA standards. Employers must
also comply with the General Duty Clause of the OSH Act, which
requires employers to keep their workplace free of serious
recognized hazards.

Protect employees, clients, sub-contractors, visitors and


asset from any harm.
The goals of occupational safety and health programs include
to foster a safe and healthy work environment. OSH may also
protect co-workers, family members, employers, employees, clients,
sub-contractors, visitors and assets, and many others who might be
affected by workplace environment.
In common-law jurisdiction, employers have a common law
duty to take
reasonable care of safety of their employees.
Statute law may in addition impose other
general
duties,
introduce specific duties, and create government bodies with powers
to
regulate workplace safety issues: details of this vary from
jurisdiction to jurisdiction.
All organizations have the duty to ensure that employees and
any other person who may be affected by organizations activities
remain safe at all times.

Participation of employees in health and safety programs

As essential elements of each occupational safety and health


management
systems, workers participation influences its
effectiveness. Numerous cases and
experience confirm that
workers participation in OSH management can result in improved
safety, health and well-being of workers. The participation can be
implemented as indirect (through representatives) or direct, weak or
strong, formal or informal, etc. Development of workers participation
in OSH management is supported by legal regulations as well as
standards and guidance on OSH management systems.

Conserve environment, safety of tools and equipment, and


promote awareness.
The tool, equipment and the work practice are among the
factor that caused the accident in site. The fatal injury rate for the
construction industry is higher than the national average due to the
fall (from heights), trench collapse, and scaffold collapse, electric
shock and failure to use proper personal protective equipment. So,
all the tool and equipment that been used must be checked to
determine whether the equipment are safe and abide the
requirement that been highlighted. For the worker practice, worker
will be supervise by the site supervisor to ensure that the workers
obey the working practice and avoid any harm from bad work style.
The worker also will be promote awareness in aspect of health,
safety and environmental care.

Provide and ensure appropriate PPE are worn by workers in


carrying out their task.
As a company, to ensure the safety of workers in good
condition, all of the precaution must be taken in the form of
complete protective equipment by the worker. We committed to
provide all of the equipment that are compulsory for worker in the
site work. The PPE are the part of solution for site safety to protect
worker from the injuries such as:
a the lungs, example: from breathing in contaminated air
b the head and feet, example: from falling materials
c the eyes, example from flying particles or splashes of
corrosive liquids
d the skin, example from contact with corrosive materials
e the body, example from extremes of heat or cold
The personal protective equipment that been provided by our
company based on the law which is The Personal Protective

Equipment Regulations 2002 and the Personal Protective Equipment


at Work Regulations 1992, to provide PPE includes:
a Goggles: to protect workers eyes from chemical or metal
splash, dust, gas and vapor.
b Safety Helmet: to secure the impact of falling or flying object,
risk of head bumping, climate and temperature.
c Earplugs: protectors that reduce noise to an acceptable level,
while allowing for safety and communication
d Gloves: To protect from abrasion, temperature extremes, cuts
and punctures, impact, chemicals, electric shock, radiation,
vibration, biological agents and prolonged immersion in water.
e Safety Boot: to decrease the effect of falling object, slips in
different conditions, including oil or chemical-resistant soles. It
can also be anti-static, electrically conductive or thermally
insulating

The PPE that provided also must be PPE must be properly looked
after and stored when not in use, example in a dry, clean cupboard.
If it is reusable it must be cleaned and kept in good condition.
Besides that, The PPE using the right replacement parts which
match the original such as respirator filters. The application of PPE
at the site will be monitor by the Site Safety Officer to ensure that
the worker comply the safety requirement in site.

Any stockpile need to be placed at the store


and the store cannot be installed at any
floor of the building to prevent the
exceeding building capacity.

This is high rise building, so the scaffolds


need to be installed properly. The design
and drawing of the scaffolds need to get
improvement from professional engineers.

medical officer attending to, or called in to

suffering from any of the diseases listed in
the Third Schedule of any disease named in
any regulation or order made by the
Minister under this Act, or occupational
poisoning shall report the matter to the

During demolition, continuing inspections


shall be made by a designated person as
the work progresses to detect any hazard to
employees resulting from weakened or
deteriorated floors or walls, or loosened
material. No employee shall be suffered or
permitted to work where such hazards exist
unless they are corrected by shoring,
bracing or other effective means.

Conclusion
In a nutshell, the PODIO CONSTRUCTION SDN. BHD. took safety very
seriously. We have implemented various kind of safety policy. This is
due to our concern of the workers wellbeing and ensures the working
environment is safe.
