I. REPORT
EFFECTS OF GLOBAL WARMING
Global warming is one of the biggest challenge our planet is facing
today. Some says its inevitable, others try to stop its fast development, and
the worst is that others doesnt care or have any idea that it is happening
today. But what exactly is Global warming? Fortunately Im always fond of
watching National Geographic and Discovery Channel and have been aware
of how global warming affects us in present time and how catastrophic its
effects in the future. We humans are the main reason of this phenomena
because of the huge increase in CO2 or carbon dioxide emission caused by
burning fossil fuels, it is identified as major reason of temperature change. It
adds to more greenhouse gases such as methane and nitrous oxide. Other
reasons are the high amount of methane that is released to the atmosphere
from the arctic seabed, deforestation, Increase in usage of chemical
fertilizers on croplands.
Scientists project that extreme weather events, such as heat waves,
droughts, blizzards and rainstorms will continue to occur more often and with
greater intensity due to global warming, according to Climate Central.
Climate models forecast that global warming will cause climate patterns
worldwide to experience significant changes. These changes will likely
include major shifts in wind patterns, annual precipitation and seasonal

temperatures variations. In addition, because high levels of greenhouse

gases in the atmosphere are likely to remain high for many years, these
changes are expected to last for several decades or longer.
The Global Climate Risk Index 2015 listed the Philippines as the
number one most affected country by climate change, using 2013s data.
This is thanks, in part, to its geography. The Philippines is located in the
western Pacific Ocean, surrounded by naturally warm waters that will likely
get even warmer as average sea-surface temperatures continue to rise.
As the Earths surface continuously increase in temperature and lack of
rainfall can cause to drought which can cause entire crops to fail or result in
a very small crop, even for farmers who irrigate their fields resulting to low
crop production. Droughts are damaging because of the long-term lack of
water available to the plants. In my area, reduce crop production is one of
the effects of global warming.

I also noticed that some farmers had decided

to stop farming since there is no one planting on the part of the field for a
long time.

Changes in the frequency of extreme events coinciding with global

warming have already been observed. Last week, we had been affected by
the habagat that brought heavy rains and thunderstorm. Since I live the
mountain city of Antipolo where we dont have floods that are high enough to
make us evacuate in our homes. My main concern is that we are very prone
to landslides since we live in elevated areas. Last year the zigzag road where
I travel almost every day collapsed because of heavy rainfall that lasted days
similar to what happened recently. My concern is that if it happened before
there is a possibility that I wont happened again since every year we suffer
from heavy rainfalls from typhoons and habagat.

II. CONCLUSION
Global warming affects not only us humans but also plants and
animals. So we have take this problem seriously because there is great risk
and it concerns every living thing in this planet. As humans, it is our job
protect our home and not abuse it like we do now by deforestation, oil spills,
air pollution, etc. I know that minimizing carbon emission alone cant solve
this problem, we must do it one step at a time.

III. RECOMMENDATION

Individuals can contribute to reduce the change in the global warming

by educating children and our community of what its causes and effects. We
must try our best to solve the problem and strive as much as possible to
save the planet for the sake of future generation.
In my area, I suggest we give better irrigation so that farmers can
continue planting crops and as for the safety of the motorist/traveller in my
area during heavy rainfalls and thunderstorm I recommend doing a weekly
check-up on the roads. By practicing this, it reduces accidents occurring in
the area.
