Subject: 6th Grade Math Topic of Unit: Decimals Add, Subtract, Multiply, and Divide How does the unit connect to the lives of the students: It gives them a greater handle on money management. It also helps the students learn to work with decimals, which are very present in every day life whether that is through money management or something else. Overall Goals: Students should be able to compute fluently with single-digit and multi-digit decimal numbers. Specific objectives: Students will be able to: Add and subtract single-digit decimals with whole numbers and single digit decimals. (6.NS.3) Multiply single digit decimals with whole numbers and single digit decimals. (6.NS.3) Divide single digits decimals with whole numbers and single digit decimals. (6.NS.2) Add and subtract multi-digit decimals. (6.NS.3) Multiply multi-digit decimals. (6.NS.3) Divide multi-digit decimals. (6.NS.2) Place the decimal in the proper place when multiplying and dividing decimals. (6.NS.3) Solve word problems that involve decimals. (6.NS.2-3) Evidence that students met the objectives: Daily Worksheets that become homework if the students do not finish in class. The instructor will go over these with the students at the beginning of class and then collect them to see how students are doing. These will not be given every day, but instead about every other day. There will be an exit slip at the end of the unit that has questions that cover everything in the unit. This will be a graded assessment that is done individually.
