FOOD AS GIVEN IN THE BIBLE

A study of Gods plan for the diet of man throughout time.

The original food was given in a perfect environment where there was no sin. It was
given that people may continue growing and giving birth to fill the earth never to die, but
later when they ate what they were forbidden to eat, they started decaying and even
dieing.
Mans original diet
Genesis 1:
29 And God said, 'See, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of
all the land, and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food.
Grains

Mans second diet
Genesis 3:
17-18 Then to Adam He said, 'because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and
have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, "You shall not eat of it":
Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life.
Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, and you shall eat the herb (green
plant) of the field.
Wickedness increase on earth
Genesis 6:
6-9 "And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in
His heart. So the Lord said, 'I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the
earth' ...Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations...."
Mans third diet was a curse and not a blessing. We eat it, but it shortens our lives
and full of diseases.
Genesis 9:
1And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitfull and multiply, and
replenish the earth.
2. And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth and
upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of
the sea; into your hands are they delivered.
3. Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I
given you all things. But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not
eat.
Verses 5 records how life is lost.

5.Surely, your blood will I require at the hand of every beast will I require it , at the
hand of every mans brother will I require your bloods
Every time we kill we are accountable
Isaiah 66:
3 He that killeth a beast is like he that killeth a man.

The result of this diet

After the flood the people ate largely of animal food... and He permitted that long-lived
race to eat animal food to shorten their sinful lives. Soon after the flood the race began
to rapidly decrease in size, and in length of years. CDF 373
Genesis 6:
3. And the Lord said, My Spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is
flesh, yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty days.
The promise of a great nation
Genesis 12:

1, 2; 15:5, 6 Now the Lord said to Abraham: 'get out of your country... To a land that I
will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you...' 'Look now toward
heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them... So shall your descendants
be.' And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.
The 400-year period in Egypt predicted
Genesis 15:
13, 14 And God said to Abraham, 'Know positively that your descendants will be
strangers dwelling as temporary residents in a land that is not theirs [Egypt], and will be
slaves there, and they will be afflicted and oppressed for 400 years. But I will bring
judgment on that nation. and afterward they shall come out with great possessions.

Exodus 15:
25, 26...There He made a statute and an ordinance for them, and there He tested them,
and said, 'If you diligently heed the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in
His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the
diseases on you which I have brought upon the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals
you.'

In the wilderness of Sin
Exodus 16:
2, 3 Then the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured.... 'Oh, that we had
died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and
when we ate bread to the full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this
whole assembly with hunger.
Mans fourth diet
Exodus 16:
12-15 [vs. 4,5]I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel. Speak to them,
saying, At twilight you shall eat meat, and in the morning you shall be filled with

bread. So it was that quails came up at evening and covered the camp, and in the
morning the dew lay all around the campthere, on the surface of the wilderness, was a
small round substance, as fine as frost on the ground. ...And Moses said to them, This is
the bread which the Lord has given you to eat. [Six days per week, from now on.]
The Lords intension
The Lord intends to bring His people back to live upon simple fruits, vegetables, and
grains. He led the children of Israel into the wilderness, where they could not get a flesh
diet; and He gave them the bread of heaven. Man did eat angels food. MM277
The covenant established
Exodus 24:
3, 8 So Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord and all the judgments.
And all the people answered with one voice and said, All the words which the Lord has
said we will do. And Moses took the blood, sprinkled it on the people, and said,
'Behold, the blood of the covenant which the Lord has made with you according to all
these words.
Call to the promised land
Exodus 33:
1, 3 Depart...to the land of which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, To
your descendants I will give it.' ...'Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey...
Numbers 10:
33 So they departed from the mountain of the Lord on a journey of three days
The abundance of the Promised Land
Deuteronomy 8:
7-9 For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water,
of fountains and springs...a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and
pomegranates, a land of olive oil and honey; a land in which you will eat bread without
scarcity, in which you will lack nothing
The Lords diet rejected
Numbers 11:
4-6 Now the mixed multitude who were among them yielded to intense craving; so the
children of Israel also wept again and said: Who will give us meat to eat? We remember
the fish which we ate freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions,
and the garlic; but now our whole being is dried up; there is nothing at all except this
manna before our eyes.
Rebellion after Sinai
But since that time [at Mt. Sinai] they had received great light.Furthermore, they
had covenanted to accept Jehovah as their king and to obey His authority. Their
murmuring was now rebellion, and as such it must receive prompt and signal punishment,
if Israel was to be preserved from anarchy and ruin. PP379
Lessons for modern Israel

The varied experience of the Hebrews was a school of preparation for their promised
home in Canaan. God would have His people in these days review with a humble heart
and teachable spirit the trials through which ancient Israel passed, that they may be
instructed in their preparation for the heavenly Canaan. PP293
A caution for modern Israel
There are those who ought to be awake to the danger of meat eating, who are still eating
the flesh of animals, thus
eating will go from Gods people to walk no more with

Animals final diet

Isaiah 11:
6-9 The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the young
goat, the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead
them. The cow and the bear shall graze [side by side]...And the lion shall eat straw like
the ox.... They shall not hurtin all My holy mountain.
Mans final diet
Revelation 22:
1, 2 And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of
the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of
the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her
fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
With Jesus once again
Matthew 26:

29 But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day
when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.
