Oracle eAM
Oracle Enterprise Asset Management (eAM) is part of
Oracle's E-Business Suite and addresses the
comprehensive and routine asset maintenance
requirements of asset intensive organizations ... To
measure performance and optimize maintenance
operations, all maintenance costs and work history are
tracked at the asset level.

Asset Structure - Define

During creation of an asset you are doing more than
just entering a name
Asset Group
Asset Category
Default information (owning department, location,
accounting)
Parent hierarchy info

Asset Structure - Define

Asset Structure - Groups

Define assets and characteristics that can be
inherited by the assets belonging to the asset group
you defined:

Master Bill of Materials

Attributes such as nameplate information
Default activity associations
Preventative maintenance templates
Meter templates
Attachments
Quality plans
Failure sets

Asset Structure - Groups

Suggestions
Create enough asset groups so that they are distinct
to the asset.
Example: Asset group 4.5 Cubic Ft. Washer Machine
Various makers such as Kenmore/Samsung/Whirlpool
Each one might have a very specific set of items and
attributes to make up the bill of materials or other
distinguishing things you would like to default.

Asset groups provide the ability to default a lot of

information that otherwise would have to be entered
on an asset by asset basis.

Asset Structure Category

Asset categories are another way to group your
assets.
It is at a higher level and will bring some of your asset
groups together. Instead of make and model specific,
it will be more general.
Example all 4.5 cubic ft. washers fall under
Washers.Clothing etc.
