Elective 1
Assessment (1)
Introduction:
For this booklet I will explain the six skills of science which include
(observation, classifying, measuring, Inferring, communicating, and
predicting), and I will provide some activities that will help students to how
and when to use it. That is useful to the student to learn more about
experiences, analyzing, and evaluate the question to find the answer by
watch evidence.
In each skill, I will explain the skill that includes the definition of each skill in
science object, and describe how it useful for children in KG. After that, I will
put activity about it to the application what they learn and support that with
a picture that relates to the ability, and assessment to evaluate to show how
the students understand each skill.
In the next point, I will explain the 5S in my lesson. Engage: the teachers will
asking questions for them to have an idea about, what they know about the
concept or skill being developed. Explore at this stage, the students need to
discover and think more about skill and to see in several aspects. Explain,
when students develop the explanations to what they have to back
knowledge. Extend: the students will apply what they learn in a new situation
to develop an understating about skill, evaluate in this stage allow to the
teacher to see the learner understating the concept by giving them some
worksheet, or do the activity.
Skill 1 (Observation)
Definition:
Observation is using five senses to learn through that, like use
their hand to tough the object they have, use the eye when to
watch what will be happen next experiment.
Explain how observing in benefit to KG: observing skill has
many Features for kindergarten students. It helps students to
develop their cognitive skill by using five senses (using eyes to
looking at data in a different way). Moreover, it is important to
point to help students to a make a good discuss group about the
issue and complete to arrive a solve of the problem, and
development of thinking. The children learn to observe details
about the world around them.
Activities: The teacher will divide the classroom in for groups has
4 Students. Then the teacher will explain to students to go in
grander and pick five different kind of leaves and classifying them
and sort papers regarding (shape, color, size, texture, and smell),
and each group will make a poster to but leaves inside it.
( classifying).
Materials (white paper, leaves, marker, color, rulers, pencil,
scissors, and adhesive)
Assessment: the teacher will make a poster and student will sort
the leaves according to what is a similar and different between
events.
Skill 2 (Inferring)
Definition: Inferring it is a group of observations we are trying to
arrive at the answer that we did not get it in a direct way.
Moreover, this is using to know the background knowledge, which
the students have it from before, and the new view observation
through using five senses.
Explain how inferring is useful to KG: the student can develop
their cognitive skills by predicting what will happen in this
experiment. Also, this skill will build on students previous
knowledge also the knowledge that they will occur from what they
will do. As well this skill can aid students to modify the
information that they have it from before, but its not truthful, and
they will modify it by observation to the experiment that it has
information.
Activities: the teacher will put in table three bottle of water by
filling them the several materials such as sand, stones, paper, and
in each film canisters will also be inside water.
Step1- Teacher will ask the students some questions that are
relevant to the experiment, and each film canisters will have a
question. For example, what do you think about the sand will be
mixed with water? Is the water would discoloration?. Other
question for other film canisters will be Is the rock as possible go
down the enclosure?. And for paper film canisters will be , Is the
paper can float or not?
Step 2- the teacher will do the experiment.
Step 3- the students will see the outcome, for teacher and
compared with children who discovered
Materials: three bottle of water, water, sand, stones, paper, and
pencil.
5s:
Engage:
The teacher will engage the students to be more interesting in the
class by asking them some questions. For example, what do you
think about the sand will be mixed with water? Is the water would
discoloration?
Explore: when the teacher lets the students explore the concept
or skill and the students will describe it in their words.
Explain: the students will have the concept and develop
explanations the development of the phenomenon of his
experience.
Extend: the teacher let the students apply what they have
learned to new situations so the progressing understanding the
greater use of the skill. I give them a real experiment and give
them to think what will happen next to this point.
Evaluate: these stage is consent the teacher to determine if the
learner understands the skill and knowledge. The teacher will
assess students knowledge by comparing what the teacher
outcome and children who discovered.
Assessment: the teacher will divide the classroom into two groups
and ask questions about what the outcome they saw before the
experiment and after that.
Skill 3 (Measuring):
Definition: measuring is the number that can measure the
objects like shapes, using the thermometer to know the degree of
human heat bet. Also, measure the time, and temperature.
Children can use that to describe objects or events.
Explain how measuring is useful: help children learn that most
things have a shape which can help in identification, and aid
students compare between the different shape of size and weight.
Also, help children to learn the units of measure include (Km, M,
DC, CM, and MM). The students will find out how they can
measuring several weights and sizes to measure.
Activity: the teacher will using a thermometer to gauge the
temperature of a cup containing water and ice, and each student
will try to measure it. After that, they will write the number they
getting it in a white paper.
Materials: thermometer, temperature, two cups of water, water,
white paper, and pen.
Skill 4 (Classifying)
Definition: sort the objects according to common attributes or
properties, also, it can be classifies living things into groups that
are related to each other in a process called taxonomy.(Science
Inquiry Skills).
Explain how classifying useful for KG: the students can organize
items into a right place. And also, learn how to sort event
between common attributes and different.
Activity: the children have the jar may be a full of buttons, and
the children will begin grouping by sorting the buttons in
distinctive feature of pink buttons, white buttons, red buttons, and
classifying other buttons they have in a Jay.
Skill 5 (Communicating)
Definitions: transmitting and receiving information presented in
various forms-verbal, graphical or pictorial. (The Basics of
science). In addition, using graphic symbols to describe an
action, object or event.
Description of how can communicating is Benefit for KG:
Help children to develop their cognitive language skills and about
Social, emotional and skills. Also, acquire the oral skill when they
are training some word. Children learn how can communicate
ideas.
Suad Taleb / H00283472
Activity: the teacher will give the student to drawing a map about
what they saw in the situation of weather and give them
instruction about what they observed outside. So, the students
will be recording daily weather by writing a time of day, data, and
students will drawing pictures of the weather in each day. Then
children discuss what they have observed with a classmate and
teacher. The teacher encourages communication record an
experience they have seen. The students will record daily weather
by writing a time of day, data, and students will drawing pictures
of the weather that day.
Materials: white paper, pen, color.
