Amendment #1

What is the 1st Amendment

Does my vote count?

Yes, your vote counts. ... When
you vote for president, remember
that you're voting in a state election,
not a national election. So your vote
counts just as much as anyone
else's in your state but it
may count more or less than that of
someone living in another state!

Freedom of Speech
A careful reading of the First Amendment reveals that it protects
several basic liberties freedom of religion, speech, press,
petition, and assembly. Interpretation of the amendment is far from
easy, as court case after court case has tried to define the limits of
these freedoms.

Freedom of Religion

Freedom of Press

The First Amendment to the

U.S. Constitution says that
everyone in the United States
has the right to practice his
or her own religion, or no
religion at all.

Freedom of speech is the liberty to

speak openly without fear of
government restraint. It is closely
linked to freedom of the press because
this freedom includes both the right to
speak and the right to be heard. In the
United States, both the freedom of
speech and freedom of press are
commonly called freedom of
expression.

Freedom of speech, the press,

association, assembly, and
petition: This set of guarantees,
protected by the First
Amendment, comprises what we
refer to as freedom of expression.
It is the foundation of a vibrant
democracy, and without it, other
fundamental rights, like the right
to vote, would wither away.

The bill of rights were the first

ten amendment, written by
James Madison.
