The Five Es

In this report, I will write about the five Es and how I included them in my early
geometry lesson.
Engage: keeping the students involved in the lesson by grabbing their attention
to the topic using different ways, such as, showing them a short video about
the topic of the lesson or to ask them some questions to know their extent of
knowledge about the topic and also to generate their curiosity.
- I will engage my students in the lesson by making some shapes with my
hands such as, triangle, square, heart and circle and I will ask them to observe
the shapes and say which shape is that. I will ask the learners some questions
like, can we see this shape in the classroom? And when they give me the
answers I will let them point on the shape that they saw in the classroom. Also,
I will play a song called "Shapes are everywhere" by Bounce Patrol.
Explore: In this phase, students work under the guidance of their teacher, and
they cooperate with each other in the classroom activities and discuss their
knowledge and ideas with each other, and they clarify their understanding of
the concept. These activities will help students to recognize the content of the
lesson and understand it well.
- I will include the explore in my lesson by taking my learners outdoors, I will
draw different shapes on the floor in the playground, I will yell out to each
group the attributes of the shape that they have to jump on it, such as, "It has
three vertices" or "it has four straight sides, Students will cooperate because
they will talk to each other to find out the right shape and they will jump on it.
Explain: In this phase teacher let students talk and explain what did they
learned in their words, they have to listen to each other critically, and the
teacher will ask the students for evidence about what did they explain to know
why did they think in this way.
- I will let students discuss together what did they did in the activity and why
did they chose this shape to jump on, did they knew it from its attributes or
name? And what did they learned? I will give students the chance to explain
their ideas in simple words without worrying about the validity of their
thoughts.
Extend: this stage expands students understanding of the concept and allows
them to apply what did they learn and improve their ideas of the lesson. Also,
learners can make a connection between what did they learned with examples
from their real life.

- I will put the wooden geometry shapes in the mystery box. Children will run
their fingers around the shapes, and they will talk about what they are
touching, and they will try to guess which shape that they are feeling. Also, I
will ask the students to give me examples of shapes from their real life, such
as, the car's tire is round like a circle.

Evaluate: This stage gives students a chance to assess their understanding of the lesson and allows
the teacher to evaluate students understanding of the key of concept and development by giving the
students worksheets and asking them some questions about what did they learn in the lesson.
- I will evaluate my students by askingHave
