Affective: TLW communicate appropriately and will work cooperatively with other class mates 100%
of the time during the whole class today.
Psychomotor: TLW demonstrate hitting and passing to open space 75% of the time in class today.
STUDENT LEARNING TARGETS: (TSW/I will)
Cognitive: I will identify what open space is and how to properly hit the ball into open space in class

today.
Affective: I will communicate appropriately and demonstrate how to work cooperatively with my
students 100% of the time during the whole class today.
Psychomotor: I will demonstrate hitting and passing to open space 100% of the time to my students
today.

ASSESSMENT/EVALUATION:
Cognitive: Students will be asked to identify what open space is and how to properly hit the ball to
open space with the equipment used in class today.
Affective: Students will self-assess their communication and their cooperativity with each other and
will report any issues to me while I am scanning over the class ensuring this occurs.
Psychomotor: The teacher will informally observe students over the whole lesson and will make sure
that they are hitting and passing to open space 75% of the time and addressing if there is an issue.

Skill Cues/Instructional Cues Used

Keep the ball over your head!
Use two ways of hitting!
Hit to open space!

ACCOMODATIONS:
Students with an injury that can affect their locomotor skills, they can walk or just be a holder when
we hit the Omnikin ball. If injury is too severe, then they can officiate and cheer on their team.

MODIFICATIONS:
Increasing or decreasing the amount of time that a team has to serve the ball after the hold is
initiated.
Making the outside boundaries smaller or bigger depending on success.
Use the smaller or bigger Omnikin ball depending on catching success rate and the hitting to open
space success rate.

INTEGRATION- COMMON CORE:

Discuss Omnikin ball and how it can bring many people of different cultures together.

SAFETY:
Students will need to display spatial awareness and remain in their own personal space.
Students will need to display the proper skill cues of hitting, holding, and catching an Omnikin ball.
Students should not act inappropriately towards another student.
Students should use equipment correctly and responsibly.

Activity Description
Anticipatory Set: Okay class who remembers what we
worked on in class yesterday?
Who here remembers the skill cues that we went over?

Skill/Teacher Cues
Address safety that may have
caused a problem from the
previous day.

Transition
Okay class, so can you find a partner and get toe-to-toe
with one another facing me?

Instant Activity Instruction: Omnikin Train Race

Okay so just like the rules from yesterday, the object is to get
the ball around the court as fast as you can without letting it
hit the ground. But this time its a race between the two teams!
Partners on each team will stand in front of each other and will
try to move the ball to the next teammate, then when you pass
the ball you will run as quickly as you can to the front of the
line.
Each teams course is marked out by the different cones so
make sure you dont run into the other team!

Address safety and spatial

awareness.

Transition
Can the person on the left (points) go on this side of the
court and can the person on the right go to the other
side?
Instant Activity Game Play:
For the first game, have students pass the ball with two
rows on each team.

5,4,3,2,1

If we have time for a second, depending on success, have

students do the same as the first but change the locomotor
movement to hopping on two feet.

So for the last race, lets do the

same thing but we cant run! We
have to hop on two feet!

Uses student to help me

demonstrate.

Remember, each team will have

two rows that will be passing the
ball to each other! 3,2,1 Go!

If the ball is hit, then the student who hits it has to do 6

jumping jacks before they can get back into the game.
10 sec

Transition
Have students get the cones and Omnikin balls and bring
it to the designated area.

Okay so can I get one person

from each team to get the cones
and one person on each team to
get the Omnikin balls?
Can we get this done in
5,4,3,2,1?

Activity Description
Skill Instruction: Open Space
Okay so were going to have a pretty similar set up to
yesterday. We will have three courts with two teams on each
side of the court. Today we will work on hitting to open space.
We have to hit the ball to where people arent. Each court will
have one ball. When on defense, you have to stand in the
middle of our court. Right before they serve I am going to
have the defense run and touch the front, back , left or right
line on the court then try to quickly get back to catch the ball.
The offenses job is to hit the ball to the opposite side or where
the defense isnt while they are running to touch the line. After
each time the ball is hit, the offense and defense
responsibilities switch. Lets get onto our courts and I can give
you all a demonstration.

Skill/Teacher Cues
Wide triangles!
knee on the ground!
sitting on your heels!
head down!
Chest down on your knee!
Arms extended with your palms
up!
Two hands!
fingers to the ceiling!
Hit to open space!
Watch for safety and give
feedback to students, focusing on

their holding and pushing

abilities.

Transition
Have random numbers predetermined based off of the day
before. Can I have numbers (..) go to court one and get
the blue pennies.. etc. for the rest.
Skill Practice:
Show demonstration using one court.
Play a few games adjusting how much time I give the defense
to get back from touching the line.
May make court bigger or smaller depending on success.

Have a designated serving spot by

using poly spots. Make sure they
are closer together than yesterday.

Activity Description
Culminating Activity Instruction: Hit the Open Hula Hoop
For this activity we are going to work on hitting and
serving to open space because in the game of Omnikin, you
have to hit it away from the other teams! So each side of
the court will have 6 hula hoops (or poly spots if we dont
have enough hula hoops 36) and one Omnikin ball per
court. When you have the ball you have to serve the ball to
the other side of the court to the open hula hoop. On
defense, it is your job to pick a hula hoop to stand in for
each serve. You cannot change hula hoops once the
opposite team gets ready to serve. If the ball is hit to you,
then you can catch it and get ready to serve it back. Any
questions?

Watch for safety and give

feedback to students, focusing on
their holding and pushing
abilities.

Transition
Have random numbers predetermined based off of the day
before. Can I have numbers (..) go to court one and get
the blue pennies.. etc. for the rest.
Also have each team go grab their own hula hoops/poly
spots as they get to their courts.
Culminating Activity/Skill Application:
During the first few minutes I will monitor and give feedback.
After a few minutes I will stop the game play and have each
team either move the hoops further away or closer together
depending on success.
After that I will give the teams autonomy and have them put
the hula hoops where they think they should go.

Watch where you are running

to!

Okay so now can I get each team

to bring each hula hoop one foot
closer/further from each other
then we can continue gameplay in
5,4,3,2,1.
Okay now each team can decide
where to put their hula hoops at!
But they have to have at least 2
feet from each other.

CLOSURE:
Okay class so what did you all like the most about todays lesson!?
Awesome, so what did we work on today? (hitting to open space)
What is hitting to open space?
