Abstract

Problem
The issue of Terrorism has become global nightmare. It has displaced many people
and it has as well killed many in our nations today. This issue is most affected by the
African countries. Many terror groups have emerged since 10 years ago to terrorize
the citizens. This problem of terrorism should be eradicated in order to move Africa
forward.

Solution
One of the many ways to solve this problem is by providing good education system
by the government to the African people. Most African children have no quality
education and this has a great impact in their lives. Secondly the government
should invest more on the infrastructural facilities and provide adequate water and
electricity supply. This will help to improve their lives as they watch TV and use
internet to communicate with friends abroad, they may become expose a little bit.
Thirdly a kind of food program scheme should be adopted by the Government to
assist those homeless and poor citizens by giving them food, clothes and shelter
like we see in the developed countries. This will really help to eradicate starvation
and hunger in the communities. Finally, alleviating poverty by providing incentives
to business owners, investing more on Agricultural sector like giving subsidies to
both traders and farmer on agricultural products.

Benefits

Safety is assured
Foreign investor will be attracted
Enhancement of international trade
Free movement of the citizens

Title of Proposal: Solutions to Stop Terrorism in Africa

Statement of Purpose: The purpose of my proposal is to suggest different ways by which
Terrorism in Africa can be eradicated.
Introduction and Background: The issue of Terrorism has become a global nightmare. It is a
growing threat to every country in the world, no country today seems safe. Due the fact it has
been a very difficult issue to discus and attracts maximum attention whenever it is being
discussed, identifying the possible ways to solve this scandalous act has been a goal for many
patriotic citizens of the involved countries. People in the affected countries have tried to find
solutions, but also the authorities are trying to crush the terror menace through legitimate
activities. Western forces are attempting to solve this problem by engaging in wars and some
political candidates are even suggesting banning some religious group entering into the United
States; nonetheless, all these have clearly demonstrated its inadequacy to help as it has led to
more assaults.
According to the article Elimination of Terrorism lots of efforts have been made to eliminate
this act of terror but instead of coming to an end, it is increasing day by day and as a result, more
people are becoming victims (Ashfran). Even though Terrorism may seem like a very difficult
issue in Africa, there are possible ways to overcome it. One of the ways this can be solved is by
decreasing the rate of unemployment.
The inability to have job is one of the fundamental drivers that led to an increase in terrorist
attacks. Unemployment in the countries in Africa has been on increase compare to the last
decade. When people are not occupied with any kind of job to sustain their families, they become
angry and frustrated. When this happens, any means of them getting money will be the ultimate
goal. When people are desperate to get money, they are willing to do anything to see their needs
are accomplished. In an interview conducted by Martin Cuddihy an African correspondent, he
states that Hassan who is originally from Lamu a town in Kenya decided to move to Somalia and
joined a terrorist group called Al Shabaab. While in Kenya he had no job. He made living from
begging on the street and was desperate to make some money. Hassan said in an interview I like
playing with AKs (AK47 assault rifles), bombs and things like that make me happy he stayed
with this terrorist group, and killed a lot of people as he earned his income. If the government
should create more jobs by investing more on agriculture, giving little subsidies to manufacturing
companies, and encouraging foreign investors to invest in Africa by lowering tariff and import
duties. Honestly unemployment rate will reduce and majority of the poor masses will be enjoyed.
Secondly, social injustices and corruption should be totally removed. Unequal distribution of
resources in our communities can have a negative effect on the citizens. Some people are already
looking for a way to commit crime much more when such opportunities are given to them. The
inequality treatment among the men and the women should be contained. In Algeria, there is a
high rate of inequality treatment. The women are treated so unfairly that they began to attack the
country in order to exercise their right. In the book titled Gender and Diversity in the Middle
East and North Africa, a group of women from Algeria was responsible for the 1989 attack that

killed sixty people. This was as a result of inequality between the men and the women. If the
citizens were given equal rights irrespective of the gender, there should not have been any riot or
killing.
Similarly, providing African countries with good education will be another solution to stop
terrorism. I propose that government should employ every tool it has to ensure that the citizens
are properly educated. Brockhoff, Tim, and Daniel said that the lower education tender has a
tendency to advance terrorism in a group of nations where financial, political and demographic
conditions are unfavorable, while advance education decreases terrorism in bunch of nations
where conditions are favorable. Free education to at least to high school level should be adopted
by the government, more schools should be created and more teachers with good salary scheme
should be employed. Somalia for an example has the least functional system in the world with
just 10 percent of children going to primary school, while Eritrea is second worst (Shepherd). As
a result of poor education in Somalia, the country has been experiencing an outrageous number
of terrorist attacks.
Furthermore, in the modern era, religious terrorism has become increase in its frequency, the
scale of violence and the global reach. People who are involved in a religious terrorism believe
that their act can be executed and rewarded. (Martin). According to the article, Religious
Extremism Main Cause of Terrorism, 80 percent of the terrorist attacks that occur in sub-Sharan
Africa is as a result of religious terrorism. (Arnett) I propose every religious group should be
respected and treated with love and kindness, every culture should be allowed to exercise its
rights and traditional beliefs but, more education should be employed to enhance the knowledge
of the citizens.
Finally, alleviating poverty among the citizens can help reduce terrorism. Poverty is the major
cause of terrorism and alleviating it can be a major solution to terrorism. In the article, Root
Causes of Terrorism, Newman stated that when people are deprived of certain resources, and
opportunities, poverty can create resentment and cause some to turn to terrorist in order to
express their outrage. Government can alleviate poverty by investing more on education,
encouraging business by giving incentives, recreating more jobs by using its resources like Oil
and farming, providing infrastructural facilities and constant electric supply. Should all these
measures be Implemented, I strongly believe that terrorism will be thoroughly eradicated in
Africa.

Significance of Topic: Decreasing the rate of unemployment, bringing to an end the act of
injustice in the country, providing education for the young people, and alleviating poverty by
giving incentives to business owners, investing in infrastructural development and providing
constant electricity supply are the possible ways to stop terrorism in Africa. If our leaders would
adhere to this simple suggestion, I think it may go a long way in solving this problem of
terrorism once and for all.
Approach to research/Descriptions Methods of Research: For my research, I have chosen to
use articles on causes and ways to solve the problem of terrorism in Africa, National geographic

documentary programs, books on terrorism and personal interview Rwanda refugees in

charlotte.
