PROCEDURES

Experiment 1: Principles of a Gas Absorption Refrigeration System


1. The overall setup of the gas absorption refrigeration unit was observed.
2. The entire gas absorption refrigeration process was traced as described in
Section 2.1.
3. The following components in the unit was identified:
a) Boiler
b) Condenser
c) Evaporator
d) Absorber
4. The functions of each components listed above were described.
5. All four temperature measurement points at the unit were located (TI1 to TI4).
6. The temperature measurement readings at each points were estimated and
explained, whether it should be hot or cold.

Experiment 2: Operation of the Gas Absorption Refrigeration Unit


1. The start-up procedures was performed.
2. The initial readings of all four temperature measurement points (TI-1 to TI-4) were
recorded.
3. The timer was started as soon as the boiler electricity is switched on.
4. The readings of all four temperature measurement points (TI-1 to TI-4) were
recorded at regular intervals of 5 minutes.
5. The ice forming on the evaporator were observed as the temperature TI-3 drops
below 00C.
6. The fan were switched on once all temperature are constant to allow air to
circulate through the refrigerated space. All four temperature readings record were
continued at regular intervals.
7. The thermostat setting were adjusted to 6 once all temperature readings are
constant. All four temperature readings record were continued at regular intervals.
8. Step 7 were repeated by adjusting the thermostat setting to 2.
9. The experiment were stopped once all temperature readings are constant.
10. The shutdown procedures were performed.
