Task 1 The Audio Book/Radio Play

Your group project is to create an Audio Book or Radio Play. This will
involve devising or finding a script, preparing sound effects, creating a
musical soundtrack, recording voice artists (who may be yourselves),
and then editing it all together to create a professional sounding piece
of work.

This process will introduce you to the art of recording audio with sequencing
software, in this case Logic Pro X. You will be concentrating on capturing the
spoken voice, applying soundscapes and sound effects, and producing
appropriate music.
You will use your knowledge of frequencies and acoustic theory to help you
with microphone positions, shaping waveforms of software instruments,
applying effective reverb and EQ.
Planning will be a key element to this project and it is therefore crucial that
within each group you devise a production schedule that includes session
plans, and a number of targets and deadlines.
Justifying your decision-making is important when delivering a professional
product, and effective listening is critical in determining the decisions made.
To help your analysis there will be weekly evaluation blog-casts, which is an
audio recording of a group discussion (see Weekly Evaluation Blogcast Notes).
You can be as ambitious as you wish with this project, but be sure to manage
your time effectively. Choice of music style, sound effects, and room
ambiance are important factors for this project.

The finished Audio book should be no shorter than 5 minutes and no longer
than 10 minutes in length.

Evidence required: finished bounced Audio Book (mp3); weekly evaluations

(mp3s).

As with each task on this brief the Hand In Date is: 16th December 2016
This project can cover: Unit 2 (LO1, LO2, LO3), Unit 3 (LO2, LO3).

Task 2 The Xmas Advert

Scenario: TV, radio, film and advertising companies will often look to
audio production companies to assist with their product. You have been
asked to submit a song for a Christmas TV advert.
You must choose an appropriate song and record it in an appropriate style. It
must include lyrics and be produced to a high standard.
Planning will be a key element to this project and it is therefore crucial that
within each group you devise a production schedule that includes a number of
targets and deadlines.
Although you will be predominately working within your groups there will be
regular feedback sessions, theory sessions and workshops throughout the
process. Justifying your decision-making is important when delivering a
product, and effective listening is critical in determining the decisions made

Evidence: Completed Xmas advert with accompanying

song.

a range of performances, and a song.

When did this genre start and how did it evolve?
Who were the main artists involved?
How was it received at the time?
What legacy has it left/do you think it will leave?

Investigate an Artist/Music Producer find evidence to answer the following:

What were their biggest successes?
How was their work received upon release? Did this change later?
What skills do you think they require?
How did they get to where they are?
How could this inspire your own career?

Review a range of performances with each answer the following:

What was the performance and what instruments were being used?
What pieces in particular had he biggest effect on the audience?
Was there an effective balance of instruments?
Were there any sonic or musical problems?
Did the music always communicate with the audience?

Song analysis:
Explain the instruments, style, rhythm, sections of the composition. Analyse the
lyrics. Compare the song to others in the same style/or reinterpretations of the same
song.
