Tuesday
-Read more of story, the next activity is placing the stolen decorations on a Christmas tree. Each student is
given a numbered decoration, when they are called they have to place it on the tree (each tree has a set
number of decorations it needs before we can move on, written on the star).
-Finish the book and the final activity is, placing the appropriate numbered presents under the trees. (The
bags of toys they discovered in the stolen presents activity.)
-Good job 1B you helped restore Christmas!
Assessments/Differentiation: Facilitate the activities as a class. Give the stronger counting students the
more complex numbers in activities.
Learning Activity #2: Christmas countdown calendar
- hand out the Christmas Countdown Calendars, and cross off the next number.
-estimate the candy jar!
Learning Activity #3: Sponge Activity Tower Building
-Have each student take 20 small connecting blocks each.
-When everyone has 20 explain:
Start with 3 blocks stacked.
Roll the die or pick from the elf estimation box between 1 more, 1 less, 2 more, 2 less.
They must manipulate their towers as the notes or dice roll are read aloud.
This will be used on Wednesday instead of Race to 20. So this is more or less practice for everyone.
-If everyone is comfortable with the game, split the class down the middle and have them play against each
other, as it is originally a two player game.
Assessments/Differentiation: Do one at the front of the class using big blocks so everyone understands and
have a reference if they get lost. They have played this before so it should go smoothly..
Closure (5 min.):
Consolidation/Assessment of Learning: Thank you 1Bs for helping save Christmas, which bags had the
most gifts? Which tree has the most decorations? What were the hints for the estimation jar?
Feedback From Students: Engagement in the lesson, participation.
Feedback To Students: Wander the classroom, helping specific students if they are struggling, positive
verbal feedback and formative questions.
Transition To Next Lesson: Tomorrow is Friday so we are going to practice a few of our games to test your
math, so come prepared to show me your best math skills.
