Rectilinear Motion

An object is moving in rectilinear motion such that its position can be found using the equation
s(t) = t3 9t2 + 24t t:[0, 5].
1. Find the position of the object when t = 0, t = 4.
2. What is the velocity of the object when t = 0, t = 2?
3. What is the acceleration of the object at t = 0, t = 3?
4. When, if ever, is the object turning around?
5. If the object is turning around, find the position of the object at that moment.
6. Find all intervals where the object is traveling to the left.
7. Find the acceleration for all times, if any, when the object is not moving.
8. Is the object speeding up or slowing down at t = 1?
9. What is the total distance traveled during the interval [0, 5]?

10. The position of an object in rectilinear motion is given by the equation s(t) = cos(t)
When, if ever, is the object speeding up?

t: [0,2].

11. Given the following velocity vs. time graph answer the following:
a) How many times does the object turn around?

v
e
l.

b) At what time(s) is the object not moving?

c) When is the acceleration = 0?
d) When is the object slowing down?
