Hence, to overcome this crisis, authorities has taken several effective steps to
avoid flooding problem inside Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia. During the
Rancangan Malaysia Ke -8 and Rancangan Malaysia Ke -9, our Prime Minister, Datuk
Seri Tun Badawi has allocated budget for flood mitigation project in Universiti Tun
Hussein Onn. Extra allocation has been made in Rancangan Malaysia Ke -10 to ensure
there is no more flooding problem in Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia. Figure 3
shows about the flood mitigation project.

red colour arrows showing flood mitigation project under RMK -8 and -9. The
contractor for RMK -10 is Muara Bernas Sdn Bhd. This project takes up to 52 weeks
for its completion and cost about RM6,902,488.30. For RMK-8 project, the contractor
is Pharsb- Ecovest. Duration for this project is 1 year and consumes RM3.7 million.
Moreover, the construction process of the new mitigation project is going on
near Library Tun Aminah and G3. Figure 4 and 5 shows the progress of the project.
Increasing the elevation of the lower ground must be done to ensure the lower ground
not flooded during flash flood. Plan and redesigning the current drainage system to
carry higher capacity of water flowing during flood.

Other than that, the creation of more wetlands which can act as
sponges, soaking up moisture and wooded areas can slow down waters
when flood occurs. By this we can create an eco-friendly environment
and at the same time can tackle flooding problem.

Eventhough the autorities planned and design the road system effectively, but
during peak hours such as 7.00am to 8.00 am, 12.00pm to 1.00pm and 4.30pm to
5.30pm road congestion tend to occur almost every working day. To overcome this
existing problem, we can follow the following measures.
Firstly, improve the grid pattern of the universitys street system so that it
provides great flexibility of movement for vehicles through and around the campus.
This adds to the convenience of users, enhances the efficiency of public transit, and
promotes the operational efficiency of the University's vehicle-based distribution
systems. It also distributes traffic over several small routes rather than concentrating it
on a few large ones.
Secondly, conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles should be addressed by
improving campus streets. Proper pavement with safety measures is needed for the
safety of the pedestrians. Installation of pedestrian walkovers and zebra crossings also
very much encouraged. Bicycle use should be encouraged because of their low
environmental impact, and because it reduces somewhat the need for large roads and
parking lots. Existing bicycle lock-ups should be improved and increased in number
where justified by needs.
