1. GENERAL

1.1 Scope

This specification covers the general requirements of the tray assembly work, test and inspection, which may
be included in S-OIL ONSAN REFINERY EXPANSION PROJECT to be constructed by S-OIL Corporation.
(hereinafter referred to as S-OIL) at Onsan, Korea.

1.2 Related Engineering Specification

The related Engineering Specification to supplement this specification are as follows:

D-301 "General Requirements in Equipment Installation"
2.
1.3 Specification Prepared by Manufacturer

Any specification of tray assembling work and inspection prepared by the manufacturer, and approved by SOIL/SECL for particular equipment, has preference over this specification.

2. PREPARATORY WORKS

2.1 Work Planning Document

The Contractor shall submit his work plan including safety measures for S-OIL/SECL approval prior to
commencement of the tray assembly work.

2.2 Lifting Gear etc., for Tray Assembling Work

Contractor's plan of area and location for sorting tray parts, installation area for lifting gear and demarcation
of dangerous area related to overhead work, shall be submitted to and approved by S-OIL/SECL prior to
any works being carried out.

2.3 Scaffolding

(1) When installation of scaffolding is required for tray assembling work, protection for inside surface of the
vessel shall be provided.

(2) It is prohibited to use any galvanized and/or zinc plated/painted scaffolding materials or accessories on
or in stainless steel vessels.

2.4 Opening of Manhole

(1) No person shall enter into a vessel unless there is a safe working level of oxygen and the nonexistence
of poisonous and/or explosive gas has been confirmed by the Safety Engineer.
2.
(2) After opening the manhole, cleaning, anti-rust treatment and protection shall be carried out on flange
gasket faces of both the nozzle and blind cover.
2.
(3) All bolts, nuts and washers removed from manholes shall have anti-rusting agent applied. They shall
then be bagged and suitably labeled and kept in warehouse/store.

2.5 Lighting and Ventilation in Vessel

(1) Explosion-proof work lamp (with cab-type cord) and explosion-proof torch lamp shall be provided for
lighting the inside of vessel. The switch board for these lamps shall be clearly marked as such, so as to
prevent it being turned off accidently by any third person.

(2) During work inside the vessel, forced ventilation by means of electric fan, etc., shall be maintained.

2.6 Cleaning of Inside of Vessel

Prior to start of the cleaning work, nozzles at the bottom of the vessel shall be plugged temporarily to
prevent ingress of dust and foreign material. The temporary plugs shall be removed after completion of tray
assembling work and the removal of debris.

2.7 Checking of Tray Parts

Before commencing assembly work, tray floor and other parts shall be checked for major dimensions,
quantity, damage, dislodged valve, match marks, etc.

2.8 Horizontality of Support Ring

A record of the horizontality of support rings in the vessel shall be kept. The method of measurement shall
be in accordance with Para. 4 of this specification.

3. TRAY ASSEMBLING WORKS

3.1 Procedure of Tray Assembling Works

Tray assembling works shall proceed, as a rule, from the bottom stage. However, in case of a small
diameter tower, it may be easier to proceed from the top stage. The Contractor shall proceed with the work
after consultation with S-OIL/SECL. All works shall be in accordance with the drawings. Any inaccuracy or
non-conformity shall be brought to the attention of S-OIL/SECL.

3.2 Main Beam

(1) Main beam shall be properly adjusted so that its upper surface is horizontal and on same level as that of
the support ring.

(2) When the main beam has been fabrication shop fitted, its position and level shall be checked. The fixing
bolts shall be checked for tightness. Both shall be in accordance with the relevant specifications and
drawings.

3.3 Tray Floor

Each section of tray floor shall be provisionally bolted together, if satisfactory, it shall be fastened firmly.

3.4 Outlet Weir

2.
Outlet weir shall be fixed with its height from the tray floor correctly adjusted.

3.5 Down comer

Down comer shall be fixed with its distance from the lower tray floor correctly adjusted.

3.6 Confirmation after Tray Assembling

The following shall be confirmed after the tray assembling work completion.

(1) There are no leftover parts.

(2) Tightness of bolts is correct.

(3) Directions of clamps are correct.

(4) There is no abnormality.

3.7 Final Cleaning of Vessel and Closing of Man-way

Cleaning and completion work shall be carried out for each finished tray stage successively, as the work
progresses. Final inspection shall be in accordance with Sect. 4 of this specification.

3.8 Closing of Openings

Closing of manholes shall be carried out after final inspection. Specification (brand name etc.) of gasket
paste and anti-seizing agent for bolts and nuts shall be confirmed by S-OIL/SECL.

4. ITEM METHOD OF INSPECTION AND CRITERIA OF JUDGMENT

4.1 General

4.1.1 Inspections shall be performed at the prescribed time and in the manner as stipulated in items 4.2 and
4.3 below.
2.
4.1.2 Measurement shall be made by measuring tools such as level, manometer, steel scale and depth
gauge. The manometer to be used shall be equal to the standard manometer or better (see Fig.1)

4.1.3 When measuring is performed, it shall be confirmed that tightening of bolts around the part to be
measured is completed.

4.2 Inspection before Tray Assembling Works

Items, method of inspection and criteria of judgment shall be as follows:

(1) Inside of Tower

(a) Cleaning: Confirm removal of scale, slag, spatter, sand, paint, oil, moisture, etc. by visual inspection.

(b) Support ring: Confirm that tray-mounting surface is smooth with no burrs, etc. by visual inspection.
Confirm that the horizontality is within tolerance and record it (see Tables1, 2, and Fig. 2)

(2) Receiving of Tray

(a) Quantity: Check against the parts list and confirm that there is no shortage. (This shall be carried out
during Goods Inwards Inspection with the warehouse personnel)

(b) Appearance: Confirm there is no abnormality such as deformation, etc., by visual inspection.

(3) Provisional Assembling of Tray

(a) Match Mark: Confirm that match marks are die-stamped correctly.

(b) Mating surface: Confirm that mating surfaces are smooth.

(c) Principal Parts: Measure bolt hole, bolt length and other principal dimensions and confirm that they
comply with the drawing.

4.3 Inspection during and after Tray Assembling Works

(1) Internal Part of Tower

(1.1) Main Beam: Confirm that the main beam is horizontal and at the same level as the support ring.

(1.2) Tray Floor: Confirm that the horizontality of tray floor is within tolerance and record it. (see Tables 3,

(1.3) Outlet Weir: For outlet weir, measure the distance between the top edge of the weir and tray floor;
check it with the drawing and also confirm that it is within tolerance. Record readings. (see Tables 5,
6 and Fig. 4 and 5)

(1.4) Down comer: For down comer, measure the distance between the bottom edge of the down comer
and tray floor; check it with the drawing and also confirm that it is within tolerance. Record readings.
(see Table 7 and Fig. 4 and 5)

(1.5) Confirmation of Various Parts:

(a) Check the construction parts by referring to the drawing and confirm that everything has been
installed with no omissions.

(b) Confirm that the clamps are attached in the correct direction as shown in the drawing.
