MBA Specializations

A MBA is a two year programme which is divided into 4 semesters. And an MBA can
be done with focus on specializations like finance, marketing, human resources, and
systems, operations etc. While MBA is a generalized post graduate course on
business, the specializations offered in MBA are to be considered as functional
specializations of business management.
Functional Specializations:
MBA Operations
Operations Management (OM) is a specialized field that facilitates the process of
delivering value to the end customer by improving productivity, quality, cost, and
turnaround time. It includes inventory management, vendor management, purchase
management and enterprise resource planning (ERP), all of which facilitates the
seamless running of a company's supply chain.
Operations management is much more than about manufacturing. Operations
management is concerned with planning, organizing, and supervising in the context
of production, manufacturing or the provision of the services. The field of operations
management is connected to engineering, research and development, and
marketing. The role of operations is to overcome the challenges in logistics and
supply chain, as well as to look at ways and means of making operating systems or
processes more efficient and easier to use.
MBA Supply Chain Management
Supply chain management is more of a business function than a management
funciton. An important part of supply chain management is efficiency - ensuring a
companys resources, be they monetary or human, are not used needlessly. The role
of supply chain management is to manage the supply and demand of products and
services.
MBA Logistics
Logistics
Business challenges in logistics will often concern themselves with timing factors
pertaining to a particular supply chain. However, here too, questions of cost
effectiveness, data analysis and decision making will all be critical considerations in
being able to anticipate and respond to fluctuations in demand, or in the availability
of materials on which a companys fortunes depend.
