Printer Procedures for Replacing Formatter and Hard Drive Below are the procedures for replacing: 1. Formatter

Below are the procedures for replacing:

1. Formatter board

2. Solid State Drive (steps 5 through 12)

3. Encrypted Hard Disk Drive (steps 13 through 19)

All three procedures are integrated into the same set of steps. As you follow the steps please note the difference in color for the components being replaced.

The HP Color LaserJet CP5525 series printer is sold in three configurations - CP5525n CP5525dn CP5525xh. The N and DN models contain the Solid State Drive and the XH models contain the encrypted internal Hard Disk Drive.

In all three bundles the operating system and firmware resided on the drive. If the drive is replaced the operating system and firmware will need to be re-installed.

Turn off the printer

Unplug USB/Network and Power Cable from the printer.

If you have an N or DN model with a Solid State Drive please use step 5 though 11 to remove and replace the Drive with the same or new formatter board. If you have an HX model, please skip to step 13.

If you have any model with an Encrypted Hard Disk Drive please use step 13 though 19 to remove and replace the Drive with the same or new formatter board.

Now that you have replaced your Solid State Drive, Hard Disk Drive or Formatter you will be required to follow additional steps to get the product back up and running.

The hard disk currently installed is not recognized or supported by the product.

The installed disk was placed in a device configured for an encrypted hard disk.

Install the correct hard disk for this product. Or If the recommended hard disk is installed and this error persists, run the Clean Disk (Administrator/Clean disk) procedure from the Pre-Boot menu and then reload the OS/firmware. Or If the recommended hard disk is installed and this error persists, run the Erase/Unlock (Administrator/Disk Manager/Boot Device/Erase/Unlock) procedure from the Pre-Boot menu and then reload the OS/firmware.

Lock the disk by accessing the Pre-Boot menu and selecting the Lock Disk option. (Administrator/Manage Disk/Disk Lock)

Disk data error

The disk currently installed was previously locked in another device.

A new or blank disk has

been installed in a device which previously had an

encrypted disk.

A fatal hard disk failure has

Install a new disk Or Erase/Unlock (Administrator/Disk Manager/Boot Device/Erase/Unlock) this disk using the functions in the Pre-Boot menu and then reload the OS/firmware.

NOTE: The Hard Disk Drive may no longer be encrypted. Go to the EWS Security tab to encrypt the Hard Disk Drive. The Solid State Drive is not able to be encrypted.

Perform a Clear Disk Pass (Administrator/Manage Disk/Clear Disk Pass) with in the Pre-Boot menu. Or

Perform an Erase/Unlock (Administrator/Disk Manager/Boot Device/Erase/Unlock) from the Pre-boot Menu then load the OS/firmware on to the drive.

NOTE: The Hard Disk Drive may no longer be encrypted. Go to the EWS Security tab to encrypt the Hard Disk Drive. The Solid State Drive is not able to be encrypted.

Replace the hard disk drive assembly.

Manager/Boot Device/Erase/Unlock) from the Pre-boot Menu then load the OS/firmware on to the drive If the error persists and a disk drive is already installed, replace the disk drive assembly.

Install the OS/Firmware on to the installed drive through the Pre-Boot Menu. (Administrator/Download/USB Thumb Drive)

The printer has a disk but does not have the OS or firmware loaded.

Reinstall the secondary encrypted storage device.

Below are steps for loading new firmware onto the Solid State Drive or the Encrypted Hard Disk Drive. This process may not be available with some older formatter boards with older bios/pre-boot menu code. The bios/pre-boot menu code can be pulled from the drive. This is why it is important to never replace the drive and formatter board at the same time.

Firmware upgrade process

Pre-Boot walk-up USB thumb drive: (control panel Pre-Boot menu)

Go to www.hp.com/go/cljcp5525_firmware and follow the onscreen steps to download the most recent firmware upgrade files for your product. After uncompressing the file, copy the firmware file (xxxxxxx.bdl) to the root directory of a USB storage accessory. Insert the USB storage accessory into the USB port on the control panel.

From the Pre-boot menu, press the down  arrow button to scroll to 3 Administrator

NOTE: If no .bdl files are listed, try saving the file to a different USB storage accessory.

Wait while the file transfers. When the transfer is complete, the message Complete appears on the screen.

Firmware Transfer is complete.

Turn the product off, remove the USB storage accessory, and then turn the product on. Wait for several minutes while the product initializes.

• If the upgrade is unsuccessful, try sending the firmware upgrade file again.
