1) As we all know, formality levels of communication pertains to the usage of

specific and appropriate language to a certain person, topic or occasion. These


formality levels makes the conversation more understandable and spontaneous for
both the sender and receiver of the message. Through the means of these styles
(formality levels), we can initiate a more specific aspect of what where trying to
convey in a conversation that we are in. At the same time, this would also lessen
the confusion or distortion of ideas of the people in a specific conversation. For
example, if youre a teacher and its just youre first time to teach in a university
(college level) and youre trying to figure out how to engage a good conversation
with your students through the means of your lessons. The only way for that to
happen is to apply all the formality levels of communication in your everyday
language with them. If youre discussing a lesson proper, you should be more
directed to the formal style of communication. On the other hand, if youre students
want to know their grade and clarify some concerns, you should be more
consultative. You can apply casual style if youre students saw you outside the room
during breaks. There will always going to be a formality level that you can apply in
any situation youre in so you can become a more effective interlocutor as possible.

2) Cultures and beliefs differ from one person to another depending on the society
they are in. Its going to be hard to have a conversation with a person whose
cultures are far different from yours. Thats why it is it of great importance to have a
filter in talking to these kinds of people to avoid any miscommunication. For
example, an American and a British just met at a party and they started socializing
with each other. The British offered to treat the American with some alcohol at the
bar near to them. After some time, the British told the American if hes already
pissed. The American got confused about what the British said and asked him why
he would be pissed when theyre conversation is going smooth and nothing
offensive was brought up. What the American didnt knew was that the meaning of
pissed in UK is drunk while the meaning of that word in their country is simply
angry. As soon as the British explained it to the American, they started laughing
about it and simply took note of words that may have a different meaning for both
of them. The example goes to show that ones cultural background has a huge
impact in a conversation especially if were getting more personal and direct.
