ICT Manager

ROLE
To manage and direct the effective provision of information systems and technology to the
whole of St Catherines Hospice from the clinical community through to the fund raising,
retail, finance and support service departments. The ICT Manager is the critical link between
users at all levels, particularly departmental super users and the systems technology that they
utilise and rely on to undertake their work. The role requires the Manager to adopt a proactive
approach to the development of information systems by promoting the use of best practice
amongst the user community.
The Manager is supported by a small specialist team of two staff that provides first line help
desk support and ensure that the network infrastructure is operational 24/7 and that
workstations and server systems are serviced and maintained as required. The Manager will
be responsible for ensuring that the service is delivered to agreed standards. The Manager will
mentor the team and ensure that they receive appropriate support and training.
The Manager will also be required to work closely with the Director of Finance & ICT to
develop, and continue the implementation of, the Hospices strategy for infrastructure and
information systems development.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This is, in effect, a new role as the ICT department has historically tended to focus its support
more on the technology infrastructure than the best use of information across the Hospice as a
whole. Consequently, the key objectives against which the ICT Manager will be measured
include:

Promoting best practice in the development of information systems;


Working with super users in all departments of the organisation to ensure the use of
consistent, high standards in the management of information;
Providing support to all users, listening to concerns and identifying issues, finding and
implementing solutions;
Providing business analyst skills to all user departments of the organisation;

Supporting the Director of Finance & ICT in the establishment, development and
communication of the organisations ICT and IS strategies, including project
management;
Maintaining and developing a modern, cost effective, stable and secure ICT
infrastructure available 24 hours per day, 365 days per year;
Setting up and monitoring contracts with external suppliers for the provision of technical
support as required;
In conjunction with the Finance and ICT Director, setting, agreeing and monitoring ICT
budgets;
Working with members of the ICT team to develop their skills and knowledge and to
ensure that they are integrated into the business of the Hospice;
Undertaking the role of Data Controller for all statutory purposes;
Providing a minimum level of induction training to new starters;
Developing, in liaison with HR, a formalised training programme for all users with the
aim of raising skills, standards and awareness in the use of ICT applications (Microsoft
word, excel and outlook) and promoting consistency across the organisation.

Other duties
Undertaking any other duties considered to fall within the scope of the position, as agreed
with and directed by the Director of Finance & ICT.
On call
To participate in the ICT Team out of hours, on call rota system, as per the agreed rota
Confidentiality
You should be aware of the confidential nature of the hospice environment and/or your role.
Any matters of a confidential nature relating to patients, carers, relatives, staff or volunteers
must not be divulged to any unauthorised person.
Governance
At all times act honestly and openly and comply with relevant governance requirements,
employment legislations and standard of business conduct.
Hospice Policies
To keep abreast of and work in accordance with hospice policies as outlined on the Intranet
and/or policy folders held in the Human Resource Department (and other specified areas).
Health and Safety
You are required to take reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of others who
may be affected by your actions. You should co-operate in the implementation of St
Catherines Hospice Health and Safety and Environmental Policy and its supporting
arrangements, and, statutory regulations and codes of practice, ensure good housekeeping
rules are adhered to, and attend safety and fire lectures as required.
