Scan To SMB Exercise

Scan To SMB
Scan To SMB is a feature that allows you to scan documents directly into a shared folder on a PC from
the copier.

Worksheet Objectives
-

Create and share a folder on your desktop. Register a destination in the Address Book of the
copier pointing to the folder.
Scan documents to the folder and verify the file delivery.

Note:
This worksheet assumes that your copier is connected to a LAN and network settings are set up so you
can access Page Scope Web Connection and in Admin Settings, Network Settings, SMB Settings, SMB
scan is ON. Scan To SMB will work in a Workgroup or Domain environment, but you must set your User
Name and Password to the local computer and not the Domain log in information.

In order to Scan to
SMB, we need to
create and share a
Folder on the PC.
Right click your
desktop, scroll down to
new and select folder.
Name this new folder
SMB in capital letters
for our exercise.
Note: The folder could
have been created
anywhere on your PC.

The new folder is now

displayed on your
desktop.
We must now share
this folder to the
network.
Right click the folder,
scroll down and select
properties.
NOTE: You must have
File and Print Sharing
installed and enables
in Network Settings or
Scan To SMB will not
work.

____________________________________________________________
After the SMB folder
properties are
displayed, click the
Sharing tab.

Check the Share this

folder on the
network box.
Type the Share name
of the folder in capital
letters.
Also check Allow
network users to
change my files or
we cannot edit the
folder with new
scanned doc.
Click Apply

The shared folder is

now displayed on our
desktop.
The hand indicates the
folder is shared.
We will now create a
registered destination
in the Address Book,
which will point to this
folder on this PC.

the PC could be used
instead of the IP
Address.

shared folder in file
path in CAPS.

A confirmation screen
is displayed.
Click OK
Note: In the real world,
you or the admin
person may have to
create a new generic
user on the PC
because the customer
may not want to give
their log in names and
passwords of a PC.
You can scan to a
shared folder with a
generic log in and let
all users of the PC
have access to the
folder or have docs
sent to another folder.

The new registered

destination is now
listed in the Address
Book with information.
Now, lets scan to our
shared folder.
At the copier, enter the
Scan Mode and
touch Address Book.
Select the Index
where your new key is
registered and select
the key.
Input docs and press
Start.

In your shared folder,

the doc should now be
displayed.
