The first grade students will be able to identify


the life cycles of animals especially a butterfly
in group work three out of five times.
Formative- In whole group the students will
identify the life cycle of animals before learning
the life cycle of a butterfly.
Summative- Children will identify the parts of a
butterflies life cycle using the smartboard for
squencing.

Students will listen to a song on a radio. The


song is to get the children inspired to learn
about butterflies and to learn how special a
butterfly really is.
I will use the elmo to go through all the lab
sheets the children got to do in their centers.
I will also use the smartboard for the
sequencing. The children will be able to come
up to the smart board to put the pictures in
order.
Faith will be able to work with a buddy if
needed.
All directions will have pictures to help Faith
with her reading disability.

why habits are so important to life cycles.

Activating Prior Knowledge


Reveiw of yesterdays lesson.
Talk about animals life cycle. What is first adulthood or
childhood.
Hook/Lead-In/Anticipatory Set
Good Morning Class! We have another exciting science
class today. First lets review what we did yesterday
before we start our lesson for today. I have a song for us
to listen to today and we have centers to go to for our
lesson.
Song Dolly Parton's " Love is Like a Butterfly"
Big Idea Statement
The life cycle of a butterfly is one of the most beautiful
cycle.
Essential Questions Statement
What is your favorite thing about the butterfly life cycle?
Objective Statement
Children will be able to identify the life cycle of a

butterfly.
Transition
Okay we are going to fly like butterflies to our centers
when I call your group.

group descussion of habits and what animals live in
those habits and why where they live affects them.

I will go through each center with the children of what
they are to do at each center. I will read the directions
and preview each center with an example of the activity.

I will go around to each group and have a converation
with each group of what they have learned and what
they thing of the activity.

The children will do their own sequence paper at a
center to show what they have learned.
Transition
Now that we are all done with our centers lets crawl back to
our desk like a ceterpillar.
