Kramer, L. (2005) Sociology of Gender. Los Angeles: Roxbury Publishing.

This book describes differences gender ideologies and how it had effect women
in current times. It discusses the concept of wage gap between genders and
discrimination against women in particular when it comes to hiring process. This
book answers the question of how glass ceiling had affected women doing
business and explains in detail the cause behind it. Information on how
ideologies from the past could lead to a formation of an invisible ceiling and
keeps women from being successful are all found in this book. It also provides in
depth reasoning on many issues related to glass ceiling and links well with the
other sources in the research
Daily, C.S. (1999). A Decade of Corporate Women: Some Progress in the Boardroom,
None in the Executive Suite. Strategic Management Journal, Vol. 20, 93-99
This article examine how women had progress in the business world and how
whether or not there is still a glass ceiling. It reasoned that there are progressions
on trying to break the glass ceiling. However, there are still much more to do.
Women do progress to a level that it is much better than before, but the author
still confirm the existence of the glass ceiling. The article pointed out how
women are started to take role in management, which happens to be one of the
questions attempted to be answered in this research. This article has a statistical
data on the ratio of men and women on management making it a strong argument
that will be used for the main points in my paper.
U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. (September 28, 2008). The Equal
Pay Act of 1963. Retrieved from http://www.eeoc.gov/policy/epa.html
The Equal Pay Act of 1963 is one of the starting attempt to eliminate
discrimination against gender in workplace. This Act is a very important act that
resembles one of the first attempt to reform discriminate whether it will be on
race, looks or gender. Most importantly it proves the government
acknowledgement of the glass ceiling in its attempt to crush it. Sadly, even
though is act had declared that wage gap discrimination is illegal, Wage gap
between gender still exist as the government tries to find an effective way to
control it. This act will be introduced in my paper as one of the first attempt to
eliminate glass ceiling. This is essential in paper because it shows that womens
successfulness in workplace has become a concern at a national level.

Since this article has been out for quite some time, there are some information that
needs to be updated. However, it contains very interesting statistics in the pass
about the status of women in corporations. The article also puts in an attempt to
identify the cause to the barrier and working environment that might thwart the
development to equality among genders. This article is a research based article

that gather information from many other source. It does not only identifies the
problem but also examines corporate that have been successful in eliminating the
glass ceiling. All this makes this article a very useful source for answering the
four question needed to be answered in my research.
Fitzpatrick, L. (2013) Why do women still earn less than men Retrieved from
http://content.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1983185,00.html
This article compares both womens role in the executive and what they earn
when compared to men. It went on to explains that if we are able to eliminate the
glass ceiling, it would benefit everyone who support equal rights. This article
shares a broad perspective and would serve as a good layout source for my
paper. It provides background information that relates womens role and earning
to the glass ceiling phenomena. It is a very good source to build an
understanding on glass ceiling and how it is currently still affecting the women. I
picked this article because it provide easy to understand information and
statistics on the issue.

This is a documentary that brings us all around the world to see different
countries attempt to raise the glass ceiling. It provides many example and an
abundance of detail to portray how governments in different countries from
United States to Kenya deal with the issue. This source will be very useful in my
paper when it comes to answer the question of the current issue on glass ceiling
and how it is getting better. There will be considerable amount of examples to
pick from this documentary to answer it. Another reason I included it is because
this genre is unique in itself where you see peoples feelings, not just reading it.
This will make me more sympathetic and understanding writing the paper.
Biagetti, M. (2011). A Note on the Gender Wage Gap among Managerial Positions
Using a Counterfactual Decomposition Approach: Sticky Floors or Glass
Ceiling? Applied Economics Letters, 18, 939-943
This article analyze and examine the evidence of a glass ceiling that is keeping
women from progressing in the business world. The article confirms the
existence of a glass ceiling and determine the scope of it. Many times women are
promoted not for the best fit for the job, but for political reason or other
circumstances. This will be included in the paper in attempt to point out another
point of view on glass ceiling. How women got their job because of political
reason and how people have been using women as a political tool in order to gain

sympathy from the women who have experience some type of discrimination
from their work place.
Bukalew, E. The Future of Female CEOs and Their Glass Ceiling. Journal of Business
studies Quarterly, 3, 145-153
CEO has always been seen as a male dominated position. The lack of female
representation raise awareness of the Glass ceiling within the business world.
The article discusses why women CEOs are not as popular as males. One of the
reason that is interesting to me is the role that the women has in the pass. They
are expected to stay home and take charge of their family wellbeing. Those
women who do not stay home and decide to take position in the leadership are
being seen by other people as unfit because of the cultural norm that has been
there for decades. This really help my research by giving strong connections
between the expectations on gender roles and glass ceiling.
