I have worked in the following Sections of Building and Safety: Records Section, Front
Counter and Grading, Business Registration and now Environmental Compliance. I am
currently working in the Environmental Compliance Division of Building and Safety.
The various duties I have and continue to perform include: answering multiple telephone
lines and assisting callers by providing information, taking message and/or route calls to
appropriate staff; answering phones for those employees that are out of the office and
route appropriately; utilizing formerly recorded material to create new documents or files
incorporating all revisions; compiling, storing and maintaining a system of information
retrieval on tapes or disks; editing copies for errors; preparing and maintaining accurate
records and reports; maintaining informational and operational records ; posting data,
typing, encoding, and transmitting alphanumerical and numeric data from source
documents; keying in commands to locate files; entering, storing, retrieving and deleting
information in order to update records and/or databases; scanning and filing
alphabetically Certificates of Occupancy and 433 Permanent Foundation Permits. For
research and scanning purposes, I utilize Capture Perfect, LMS, GIS, Test Point. I use
PeopleSoft for documenting my time and GroupWise for emailing and calendaring
purposes. I have provided grading clearances, took in compaction reports, cleared final
grading certifications and logged in corrected plans and submittals. I use the HDL
(business registration) program to process (input) applications and licenses, process
business registration/license applications, and keep records of all business applications. I
also use the GIS program to locate businesses incorporated in City limits, locate APN,
parcel numbers, code violations, map elevations, any permits on certain properties,
answer multiple phone lines, assist callers by providing information; provides technical
guidance to clerical staff; provides training to clerical staff, therefore, creating the need to
assign and review the work of clerical staff; prepares and revises written procedures.
Other duties include typing, filing, sorting and processing materials; maintaining records;
processing records; gathering information; providing information to the public
concerning departmental or County operations; receiving and recording payments;
operating a variety of equipment including but not limited to word processors,
duplicating machines, calculators. Performs complex clerical work requiring the
application of laws, policies, procedures, and specialized terminology, prepares and
processes materials, familiar with policies, procedures and terminology in order to obtain
the necessary data. Gives information to the public or interdepartmental representatives
in situations where judgment and interpretation of departmental policies and regulations
are required. Reviews forms and records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
with applicable ordinances; answers questions involving searching for and summarizing
technical data, laws, policies or procedures. Also, I take in the mail and log and endorse
all checks for both Business Registration and Building and Safety Administration, and
then I enter the receipts in the database and in a written mail log kept for records. My
main duty, however, is transcribing NPDES Construction Inspection forms and Industrial
and Commercial Inspection forms, filing them and keeping clear and accurate records
and spreadsheets of these inspections. I also send letters to the owners of the construction
site and developers regarding the inspection results.

shirts and program covers.

I have volunteered for the United Way by being the Employee Campaign Coordinator for

WHAT IVE DONE TO PREPARE MYSELF FOR A CAREER IN CRIMINAL


JUSTICE
I have completed schooling in this exciting field and plan on continuing my education in
this field. I go on ride alongs with law enforcement three to four times a month, mostly
with the South Pasadena Police Department. I have been on ride alongs with Moreno
Valley Police Department (Riverside County Sheriffs Department), Long Beach Police
Department, and I am waiting to be scheduled for rides with Santa Monica Police
Department, Inglewood Police Department, and a fly along with Los Angeles Police
Department.
