Artifact #6: SMART Board Certificate

My sixth artifact is my SMART Board Certificate. I received this certificate in my Technology for the
Elementary Classroom in the summer semester at Medaille College. This certification included how the
interactive SMART Board works along with how to build interactive presentations using the tools it comes
with. Taking the training, and possessing this certificate has assisted me with being more comfortable with
the SMART Board, and being able to use the many features it offers during the time I spent on the course. I
have the confidence that I will continue to use it as a beginning teacher, and throughout my years of teaching.
Why did you include this artifact?
The reason I included this artifact is because technology is important in our daily lives. It is constantly
growing, and as individuals need to keep up with it. I definitely believe it is an important artifact because me
personally am not a very tech savvy person. After completing this course, and receiving this certificate I do
feel that I have expanded my horizons with technology, and feel more independent when operating
technological devices such as the SMART Board. Having this artifact in the portfolio project demonstrates
that I have knowledge with technology, and it is with current, and up to date software.
How does this artifact show evidence that you are prepared for a career in education?
This artifact shows evidence that I am prepared for a career in education because I am willing to take
initiative to learn something new. Technology is so important, and with it being at our fingertips, I want to be
able to interactively engage, and motivate students during a lesson. I understand that it is not a substitute to
teaching, and it should only be used to help support a lesson. Software like the SMART Board is userfriendly. Those students who may have never been exposed to them should get a feel for how it operates.
This artifact will assist me for a career in education because most if not all classrooms have SMART Boards
in them, and with having been trained, and done presentations on one, I will be able to share fun, and
challenging lessons with my students.
