By BRIGIT BAUMA
The Sun
Haddonfield Memorial High
School football coach Frank DeLano has achieved many awards
for his work within the school district.
For all he has done, DeLano
was to receive the Haddonfield
Alumni
Societys
Lifetime
Achievement Award as a teacher
and coach on Saturday, Nov. 26.
The ceremony was to be held at
the high school library.
I was really happy to hear that
I was nominated for this award.
Hearing the (name) Lifetime
Achievement Award, I was
shocked, as Im 40. But I feel very
lucky and very blessed, DeLano
said. I am honored that someone
thought I made a difference in
their life. They probably had just
as big of an impact on my life as I
did on them.
The HAS has been honoring
many of Haddonfields graduates
and teachers for 12 years. Locals
are asked to nominate individuals they feel should be recognized
for their achievements. Nominees
must be graduates of either the

Fifteen percent of bill will benefit local nonprofit
By BRIGIT BAUMA

The Haddonfield Foundation, a
charitable organization dedicated
to improving Haddonfield, invites
the community to a Dine & Donate event with P.J. Whelihan's, at
700 N. Haddon Ave., on Wednesday, Dec. 7 between 5 and 10 p.m.
When you order your meal, dining in or taking out, just say you
would like to benefit the Haddonfield Foundation, and 15 percent
of your food and non-alcoholic
beverage purchase will go to the
foundation.
This is a fun, social way to
help keep the community as wonderful as it is now, Haddonfield
Foundation
board
member
Joseph Murphy said.
The Dine & Donate event is a
first for the Haddonfield Foundation.

in our opinion
Use caution when driving on the roads, especially this time of year
ow many times have you seen
it: People driving around town
throwing caution to the wind,
as if they were on a NASCAR track?
Youd think someone was giving away
free $100 bills.
Do they not know we have children
walking around town? Do they not
care about the safety of other motorists? Do they not care about their
own safety?
Seems like today, everyone is in a
rush at all times; it seems like its getting worse with each passing year.
Somehow, by some miracle, New Jersey drivers arent the worst in the nation, at least according to an annual
Your thoughts

we get better? Should more regulations

your thoughts be heard through a letter to

study recently released by CarInsuranceComparison.com. Well, were almost the worst we rank 45th on this
list of the nations worst drivers.
If were not the worst, wed hate to
be on the road in Minnesota, whose
drivers were collectively ranked as the
worst in the nation.
Even though were not as bad as
some of our American brethren, its
not once.
Is the borough really going to offend
someone by calling the borough tree a
Christmas Tree rather than a "Holiday"
tree?
Something that really offends us is
watching American protesters burn the
American flag. But this is OK and within
their constitutional rights despite its offensive nature, yet the borough is reluctant to
use the words "Christmas tree" for the annual lighting because the borough fears
someone will be offended.
Politically correct, you bet. Politically
ridiculous, to an obvious degree.

WinterFest returns to
Cooper River Park
By Freeholder Jeffrey Nash
The winter chill
is in the air and our
thoughts turn to hot
chocolate, starry
nights and ice skating. The Freeholder
Board has brought
the WinterFest Ice
Skating Rink back
to Cooper River
Park to provide
family fun now
through February 14.
The 60 foot by 120 foot ice rink
is located in the center of Cooper
River Parks Jack Curtis Stadium
located at 5300 North Park Drive in
Pennsauken. Last year, more than
40,000 visitors visited the park for
WinterFest. We invite you to make
it part of your familys winter tradition.
The ice rink is just the beginning
of what you will find when you visit
WinterFest this season. The park has
been transformed into a winter wonderland with twinkling lights in the
trees, and vendors selling soft pretzels, hot chocolate and other tasty
treats. There are also horse-drawn
carriage rides, a carousel and a ferris wheel.
The Winterfest Ice Skating Rink
at Cooper River Park will be open
Monday through Thursday from 5
p.m. to 9 p.m., on Friday from 5 p.m.
to 10 p.m., on Saturday from noon to
10 p.m., and on Sunday from noon
to 9 p.m.
Children 4 years of age and younger
will be admitted onto the ice for free.
There is a $4 admission fee for kids
5 to 12. Admission for adults is $6
and a $4 skate rental fee for all ages.
In addition, there is plenty of free
parking in lots to either side of the
stadium. Visit www.skatewinterfest.
com for information on skating lessons and more.
Beginning December
1, the WinterFest Fantasy on Ice will bring
an experience like no
other to Cooper River
Park. World-class performers will present the
magic of winter in five
free ice shows each
week: Thursday at 7
p.m., Friday at 7 p.m.,
Saturday at 3 p.m. and
7 p.m., and Sundays at 3 p.m.
This is another great reason to visit
one of Camden Countys signature
parks. Bring the entire family to
Cooper River Park for WinterFest.
This is the perfect opportunity to
introduce kids to skating, and who
knows - there might be some future
figure skaters or hockey players out
there.
Spanning more than 340-acres
across four municipalities, Cooper
River Park is Camden Countys
gathering spot. The park contains
multiple picnic areas where friends
and families can gather; a 3.7 mile
loop utilized by walkers, runners
and bikers every day; and, the largest childrens playground in any of
the county parks. The Cooper Rivers Olympic-distance, 2,000 meter
straightaway is widely known as
one of the best rowing venues in the
country, home to numerous worldclass regattas and the Cooper River
Boathouse.
For more information on Cooper River Park, please visit www.
camdencounty.com. If you have
any other questions about County
services, please call me at (856)

cases in the state each year. The
Hague Adoption Convention established international standards
of practices for inter-country
adoptions that have been followed
in the United States since 2008.
On this day every year, we celebrate these beautiful children
getting their forever family and
work to ensure we can continue
getting kids out of the foster care
system and into a permanent
place to live with loving parents,
Gentek-Mayer said. This annual
event has made the dreams of
thousands of children across our
country come true by finalizing
the creation of adoptive families
and moving children from foster
care to their new homes.
Recent figures indicate that
more than 2 percent of all U.S.
children are adopted and that
about 60 percent of Americans
know someone who has been
adopted or has adopted. Informational expos and programs such
as those hosted by the Camden
County Surrogates Court are instrumental in placing children in
a stable home.
Adoption Day is a national initiative to raise awareness of the
more than 100,000 children in foster care waiting to find permanent, loving families.
