Procedures for Students

Work Requirements
1. All students will have the same expectations for assignments.
Each student will be responsible for turning in and completing
their own work. All accommodations will be made/ provided to
those students that meet the requirements for them. A student
will receive a missing assignment slip when they have not
turned in an assignment or it is missing.
A. A student receiving a missing assignment slip is required to
finish their missing assignment within the same day of
receiving a slip.

Absenteeism
1. There will be an Absent Folder labeled with the room number
for this class (Room 5), and teacher name, (Mrs. Glover). This
folder will be provided for a student upon returning to school
and will be in a box with dividers for each day of the week. The
student will have one folder that will have all the work for every

day they were absent. All the work that has been done each day
that the student is absent will be returned in the folder that the
student originally received.

2. The internet will also be available for access to any work that
has been missed. The assignment(s) missed can be accessed at
any place and at any time. There will be a folder/ tab available
online specifically for absent work.

Notes from Home


1. There will be a labeled Notes from Home tray located beside
the door when the students enter.

A. Students will be taught that the only Notes from Home that will
be placed in this tray will be written notes from a parent or
guardian.
B. Absence excuses, permission slips, fundraiser forms, lunch
money, and other notes from home are not to be placed in this
Notes from Home tray.
2. Other notes from home that are not written notes from a parent or
guardian will be kept inside students folders. Teacher will check
folders daily for other notes from home.
Tardiness
1. Students that are arriving more than the allotted passing period will
need to receive a tardy slip from the office. The student will not
disrupt the class. The late student will come into the classroom and
place their tardy slip in a basket labeled, Late.

2. The tardy student will engage in the activities of the day as if they
were not tardy. It is their responsibility to engage and to determine
what task they should be doing. The tardy student will look at the
agenda for the day and problem solve to figure out what task they
will begin.
3. Tardy slips will be recorded and contact with parent will be
requested when the student reaches more than three tardy slips in a
six-week period.
4. An action plan will be put in place with the parent when needed.

Homework
1. Each student will have a folder titled, Homework Folder, and,
Daily Work Folder.
A. Each folder will have the students name labeled on it and the
room number on the outside.

B. On the inside of the folder(s), the left pocket will be labeled,


in (work to be done underneath word in), and the right
pocket will be labeled, out (work to do underneath word
out).
C. The Homework will be for work that is done outside of the

classroom.
D. The Daily Work Folder will have one weeks worth of
assignments listed on a page that the student will create each
week. The page will have the names of all assignments due,
dates they are due, and a check box for students to check when
their assignment is completed.
E. Each student will make sure they have written down all
assignments that are due on their page in this folder.

Unfinished Assignments
1. A crate with a file folder in it labeled with each students name will
be in this crate close to the front door. Each folder will have Work
in Progress (WIP) titled on the front.
2. Students will place their unfinished work in their folder with their
name on it. They will be instructed to get their work before the end
of class/ day, but it is the students responsibility to check their
folder and take home their work they did not complete.
3. There will be a maximum of two assignments allowed in the WIP
folders at any time.
4. Any assignment that is in the WIP folder will be due the next day.
5. All folders will be empty each day.

Students Desks
1. All students will be placed in groups of four/five depending on the
size of the class. This is for management reasons and for students
to interact with their peers. Student interaction is encouraged when
appropriate as well as hands on experiences for the students. The
desks will also be utilized for centers.

Classroom Expectations (Rules)

1. The students will help establish their expectations/rules for the


class.
2. The finished expectation/rule list will be displayed in an area
designated by the class.
3. There will be a maximum of five expectations/rules for the class,
and a minimum of three.
4. If, at any time, the class or teacher feels that an expectation needs
to be revisited, the class will decide if a different expectation/rule
should be implemented instead.

II.

Procedures for Students

Beginning of Class

1. All students will enter the room walking and in a quiet manner.
A. Students will walk to their assigned group. If they have a
cubby, their backpack and other belongings will be placed
in this. If they have a locker, it is to be accessed before
they arrive in class.
B. Students will have all needed materials for the day at their
group. They will not need materials from their backpack
unless stated by the teacher.
C. Students will turn in their completed homework to the
homework tray.
D. Students will return to their group and read the schedule
for the day.
E. Students will begin bell ringer activity.
F. When timer goes off for 10 minutes, students will turn in
their bell ringer and be prepared for instruction.
All Transitions
1. When it is time to transition activities, the teacher will give the
students a first warning by saying, One. I will set a visual timer
to let the students know they have two minutes left and that they

will be changing activities in two minutes when they hear the


teacher say, Two, switch.
2. The teacher will then say, Two, switch. Students will start
cleaning up their area/center and will be prepared for their next
instruction.
3. Three, eyes on me, is the signal for students to focus on their
speaker and listen to instruction for their next activity.
Getting Students Attention
1. The teacher will say, Ready to rock.
2. The students will respond with, Ready to roll.
3. The attention getter will change periodically with units of learning/
holidays.

No Bullying
1. The campus strongly supports a No Bullying policy. This is
strongly enforced in all classrooms by all teachers.

2. Any student caught bullying another student via social media, at


school, cell phone, etc., will abide by the schools No Bullying
policy.
3. Any questions about this policy can be referred to the schools
website, the principal, Superintendent, or the student handbook.
Fire Drills/ Disaster Drills
1. A clearly labeled emergency evacuation binder will be prepared
with the following:
A. Emergency Procedures
B. Map with evacuation route that is highlighted
C. Updated class roster (pictures included for substitute teacher)
D. Required procedures determined by school
E. Located by front door for easy access

2. An evacuation map/route will be clearly posted in the classroom by


the front door.
A. A backpack that contains a first aid kit, working flash light,
books and/or another transition activity that will help students
prepare to learn again after an emergency drill has occurred.
3. Students will line up as instructed.
A. Students will then be accounted for.

B. Depending on the nature of the drill/emergency, students will


follow the teachers lead as to where to go and what procedure
to follow.
4. If an intruder or armed person is in the building/class, schools
policy for this will be closely followed.
Bathroom Breaks
1. Each student will have a paper that has five bathroom breaks on it
for one week.
2. When the student needs to use the bathroom, he/she will bring their
bathroom break paper to me to be signed and dated. Each time a
bathroom break is utilized, it will be crossed off.
3. It is up to the students discretion to decide how to use their
bathroom breaks. Once their five breaks are used for the week, it
will be up to the teachers discretion to decide if they should be
allowed to go.
4. A bathroom break can be traded for other items, such as a coupon
for extra recess or center time.
Classroom Helpers
1. Classroom helpers will be designated on a weekly basis.

2. Group helpers will be designated weekly. They will oversee tasks


such as: getting materials ready for centers, cleaning up groups,
handing in papers that are asked for, and any other group tasks that
occurs within the day/week.

3. Specific classroom helpers will be determined on Monday of every


week.
A. There will be a bucket for classroom helpers labeled, Helpers,
that has every helper job labeled on a stick with every students
name on the other end.
B. When a student has been picked for a helper job, their stick will
be placed in a bucket labeled, Picked. This will ensure that
every student will get picked for every job.
C. The sticks with names and helper jobs labeled on them will be
placed in a pocket chart with that job labeled for that week. The
pocket chart will be switched out weekly.
Ending the Day

1. Fifteen minutes prior to dismissal, students will begin their end of


the day tasks.
2. Students will take out their folders that have their assignments for
the day. They will check to make sure they have all their
assignments turned it for that day. If they have any assignments in
the WIP crate, they will pick them up and place them in the
appropriate folder to take home.
3. Group leaders for that week will make sure their area is clean and
put up all materials for that day. It is their responsibility to keep
their group area clean.
4. Once each group is ready, they will collect their belongings and
return to their seats.
5. Students will turn to their shoulder buddy or face buddy and tell
them one fact they learned today and something fun they learned.
6. Dismissal will begin when the bell rings. Students will follow in
the correct line for bus pick up, parent pickup, or daycare pickup.
2. Procedures for Instruction
Collaborative Group Work

1. Students are encouraged to work collaboratively in their group.


Group work is assigned daily to help peer relationships flourish.
2. Groups will be assigned every six weeks, unless otherwise needed.
3. The group that each student sits at will be their designated group to
work with unless otherwise noted.
4. Face buddy and shoulder buddy will be labeled on paper in front of
every student.
5. Proper behavior is expected of every student in their group.
Students will listen to others in their group. They will abide by
their expectations/rules that they have put in place. They will
follow these expectations and respect each others personal space.
Cultivating Skills
1. The class will establish a list of social skills to work on in the
classroom.
2. Skills will be discussed by both teacher and students to ensure
there is an understanding of what that skill entails.

3. A collaborative list will be agreed on and compiled for hanging in


the classroom.
4. Students will take turns demonstrating proper behavior of the skills
that they selected to work on. If they selected being patient, then a
student would demonstrate with another student what being patient
looks like to them.
5. Different scenarios will be given so the class can see the
differences between what is expected and what is not.
6. The class will develop together a list that gives examples of how
each selected social skill will be demonstrated.
7. There will be a handbook in the classroom to reference for any
student that needs to reference a social skill(s) or have any
questions about the expectations of the behaviors.
8. The selected social skills will be incorporated in lessons. Students
will be made aware of what skill they are working on and will help
conduct proper social skill(s) in the classroom.
What to Do When Work is Finished

1. There will be an agenda each day for students to see what is


expected of them for the day.
A. There will be a column in this agenda for students to look at for
when they have finished an assignment. This column will have
assignments or enrichment posted to be completed after an
assignment is completed.
B. These assignments will be numbered in the order of importance
to get them completed.
C. When they have finished an assignment, they will check over it
and turn it in to the tray labeled, Todays Work.
2. Students will then look on the agenda to see what assignment or
enrichment they will be working on next.
3. Students will get necessary materials or technology to complete
until further instruction.
Obtaining Help

1. Students must ask their group mates for help before they ask the
teacher.

2. If the students group mates cannot help, the student may then ask
for help from the teacher.
3. If a student needs further assistance from the teacher regarding
their classwork, this will be arranged with the parents/guardians
and the teacher for the student to receive help.
4. Times available for help are: before school from 7:30-8:00 and
after school at 3:15-4:00.
5. Help from the teacher must be set up before it is allowed.
6. Proper forms will be signed from the teacher and the parent/
guardian to ensure that the parent/guardian is aware of the student
needing further academic help.
Interruptions

1. If there is an interruption during instruction time, an attention


getter will be used to regain the students attention.
2. Students will be reminded of assemblies or other interruptions that
will be happening during the day. There will be a timer that goes
off to let them know we will be moving to another location, and to
be prepared for the next timer that will go off.

3. When the final timer goes off, students will line up per the group
that has cleaned up the quickest and neatest.
4. In case of an emergency, refer to disaster drills.

3. Procedures for Teachers


New Student Orientation

1. There will be a new student folder that will contain all the forms
needed for a new student. This folder will be given to the
parent/guardian upon registering their child. There will be several
new student folders prepared before the beginning of school.
A. Forms will be explained to parent/guardian and any questions
will be answered.
B. Forms that will be in the folder are: classroom rules and
procedures, supplies needed, permission slips, school maps,
emergency procedures, checklist for new students and

parents/guardians, dress code, technology guidelines, and any


other forms that are needed.
2. Parents/guardians and new students are encouraged to visit their
new classroom as soon as possible to help make the transition as
easy as possible.
3. Students will be encouraged to incorporate a new student into their
normal routine as much as possible to help the new student feel
comfortable in their new environment.
4. A new student will be assigned a mentor student to assist them
with the transition in the classroom. Exchanging cell phone
numbers or student email addresses is encouraged to help the
process of new students feel welcome (with parents/guardians
approval and permission).
Home and School Connection

1. A strong home and school connection is vital to help students


establish the connection between success in school and out of
school.
A. A weekly newsletter will be sent home or emailed to every
student. There will be a place for parent/guardian signature in
each students folder to ensure that the parent/guardian has
looked over the newsletter as it is for the benefit of both the
parent/guardian and the student.
B. Newsletters will have important dates listed, material that will
be learned that week, upcoming assignments and projects that
are due, and any reminders for the parents/guardians.
2. A class website will be accessible to every student and
parent/guardian. Items on the website will include: syllabus,
newsletter, testing dates, field trips, material that has been covered,
important information for students and parents, closings, school
calendar, etc.
A. Students grades will be posted privately under each students
ID number. Parents/guardians will only have access to their
childs grades.

B. Reports of all assignments and grades will be updated weekly


and parents are encouraged to look at these reports weekly to
address any concerns or questions they may have regarding
grades/assignments.
3. There will be an email option available for every parent/guardian.
All email communication between parent/guardian and teacher will
be saved as a means of documentation.
4. Parents/guardians may leave a voicemail when instructed from the
teachers direct phone number at the school. Personal phone
numbers/cell phone numbers will not be distributed from the
teacher.

Technology in the Classroom

1. Technology is here to stay and can be an asset to learning. Online


safety is key for students to understand how to use technology
safely and how to protect themselves.
A. Students will have a pledge they will sign with their parent
about the importance of online safety. This form must be
returned before the use of school technology.
2. Cell phones are a part of daily life for most. Students will not be
allowed to have their cell phone active in class. Students will place
their silent phone in a labeled pocket chart located behind the
teachers desk. Phones will not be accessed during class time
unless directed by the teacher.
3. Failure to comply with cell phone usage policy will result in the
phone being taken up. Cell phones may be picked up after class if
they are taken up.
A. Parents/guardians will be notified every time their childs cell
phone is taken up. A plan of action will be put into place as it
becomes necessary.
4. Tablets/laptops follow under the same rules and guidelines as cell
phones.

5. If a student is found conducting themselves in an inappropriate


manner on the web, further action will be taken. This may result in
their privileges of being on the web at school being revoked.
A. A plan of action will be discussed with students parents/
guardians regarding this issue.

Substitute Teacher

1. A binder labeled, SUB, will be located on top of the teachers


desk. It will contain everything necessary for the substitute to have
a successful day in the classroom.
A. There will be a standard letter addressed to subs about the class
and that students are still to follow procedures and rules.

B. A seating chart and roster complete with pictures will be


updated and placed in this binder as well. No changes to the
seating chart will be permitted unless noted by the teacher.
C. Relevant information pertaining to the students will be
available, such as: allergies, behavior issues, LD, students who
need to be monitored, students who will be pulled out for
services, and detailed information of how and who students will
be released to at the end of the day.
D. Daily schedule will be updated and included.
E. Lesson plans/ Sub plans will be included and up -to- date.
Lesson plans are specific in detail as for a substitute to be able
to read them and do as much as they can on the lesson plan.
Subs will not be expected to do assessments or tests unless
noted on the lesson plan; these will be included if they are to be
administered.
F. Classroom procedures/rules will be included in detail.
Consequences will be available for behaviors listed and
encouraged to be used. Rewards will be noted and encouraged
to be used.

G. Instructions for a teacher to ask questions pertaining to anything


in the classroom will be listed as well as the teachers contact
information.
H. Blank forms will be left for substitute notes.
2. Any issues that occurred during the absence of the teacher will be
addressed with the class and/or individual students. Consequences
will be enforced if applicable.
Volunteer/Visitor

1. Volunteers/Visitors are always welcomed in the classroom.


A. Parent/guardian volunteers will have duties to fulfill. There will
be a station for them to check when they volunteer to see what
they can do in the classroom.
B. Materials will be available for them to take home if they cannot
complete activities in the classroom.

C. A parent/guardian volunteer room parent/ guardian will be


designated to oversee all activities that are to be done of parent
volunteers or other volunteers.
2. Visitors/Parent/Guardian volunteers will check in at the office
upon arrival. If they do not know how to get to the classroom, they
will be escorted to the room they are going to.
3. Visitors/Parent/Guardian volunteers must abide by school policies
for being in the classroom.
4. Background checks will be performed if needed for the upmost
safety of the children.
Attendance

1. The teacher will greet each student at the door every day. This
will be the method of taking attendance.
2. The teacher will have a labeled seating chart for each day.
When a student is absent, the teacher will mark an A on that
childs name for that day. This will be done while the students
are doing guided practice in the morning.
