Adventure Rangers Meeting Guide

Year 1, Quarter 1, Week 3

Tips for Leaders: During the business time, take attendance and, if the boys pay dues, collect
them. (Dues go toward the purchase of awards the boys are earning.) Encourage the boys to bring
money each week for their dues. See the Leaders track on TRaCclub for helpful forms. You may
reproduce for your group the forms for enrollment, attendance, finances, activities, and projects. If
the responsibility for record keeping is given to the assistant group leader, the group leader should
carefully supervise the logs to assure up-to-date, accurate records.

Have the boys who arrive early help set up the room. Assign other boys to clean up
around the room and assist the group leader. Use the patrol guides and patrol system
to reinforce patrol spirit. Boys may also use this time to work on uncompleted merit
work.

Instruct the boys on how to treat the United States flag during ceremonies. Ask the
boys to demonstrate their abilities to follow these rules: (1) never allow the flag to
touch the floor; (2) do not mistreat the flag by tearing it or getting it dirty; and
(3) keep the flag folded when not flown. After you have instructed the boys, call them
to attention and recite the pledge. Open in prayer.

Option 1: No Mans Land

Lay out the two pieces of rope parallel to each other and at least 30 feet apart. Then
mark off two equal side boundaries so youll have a playing field 30 feet by 10 feet.
Choose four boys to do the throwing, and the rest of the boys should get in the middle
of the playing field. The object of the game is as follows: While the four boys are
throwing the Nerf ball back and forth, the boys in the middle try to dodge it. If a boy
in the middle gets hit, then he is out. When all the boys get put out, then choose four
new boys to throw the ball and start over again.
Option 2: Eraser Tag
Arrange the meeting room so that there are walkways around the circle and through
the middle. Select two boys to begin. Give each an eraser, which he must balance on
his head. At a given signal, the boy appointed to be It tries to tag the other boy
while balancing the eraser on his head. The first boy to drop the eraser is replaced by
another boy. If It tags the boy out, he also is replaced. Continue play until all have

TIPS FOR LEADERS
Teach the boys that
every person who
attends a church can
help in the churchs
ministry.

Back in the days of slavery, a slave named Joe stood in the marketplace awaiting the
auction. He was big, strong, and healthysure to bring a high price. But at that moment
only anger and stubbornness could be seen in his facial expressions.

Year 1, Quarter 1, Week 3

How Joe hated this scene! It was so cruel and humiliating. While he stood there, he determined in his heart that he wouldnt be bought. And even if he was bought, he wouldnt
work for his new master!
Soon, Joes name was called. Immediately he yelled out, I will not work! But the
auctioneer ignored him and continued. What am I offered for this fine slave? Once again
Joe yelled at the top of his voice, I wont work! But no one bothered to listen to him.
At last the price was reached and the purchase made. Joes new master came to him,
and Joe quickly told him that he refused to work. But his new master said nothing. He just
led Joe away to the wagon.
When they arrived home, the master did something very strange. Instead of taking Joe
to the dirty slave quarters, he led him to a nice little cabin. This will be your home while
you live here, the master explained.
Is this really for me? Joe asked. Thank you, but I will not work!
The master replied, You dont need to workjust live here as long as you want.
But, Master, cried Joe, arent you going to make me work?
No, said the master, I bought you to set you free!
To set me free? cried Joe, falling at his masters feet. Then I will serve you for the
rest of my life and will gladly do anything for you.
And from that moment on, Joe became the most faithful and loyal servant his master
ever had.
What Jesus did for you and for me is a little like what Joes master did for him. Jesus
saw us chained like a slave to sin. His love made Him go to the cross of Calvary just so He
could free us from our sins. He made it possible for the chains of sin to be removed from
us, freeing us from the penalty of sin. Jesus Christ paid the price to set us free!
God wants us to serve Him. Not only did God give us freedom, but He also gave us
special talents and gifts that we can offer to Him for His use. Lets strive to be the best
servants we can be for Christ, willing to do and say anything He asks.

TIPS FOR LEADERS

Think about your
favorite teacher. What
do you most remember? People usually
remember who he or
she was as a person.
In ten years, the boys
in your group will
remember you for who
you are, not for what
you teach.

TIPS FOR LEADERS

Always be ready to
take time to pray
for special needs as
requested by your
boys. Be sensitive
to the leading of the
Holy Spirit as you pray
and talk with the boys
about their needs
and how God can
meet them.

Call the boys to the front of the room to stand around the Christian flag and dedicate
themselves to the service of God. Close in prayer.

AFTER THE MEETING

After the meeting instruct the patrols to put the meeting room back in order and put
away all equipment and supplies. Take time to meet with your Group Leadership
Team (GLT) to review the meeting and make plans for next week.
