Water ConservationBrushing Teeth

Project overview
Difference between using 10 ounces of water
everyday while brushing teeth compared to
leaving the water in faucet running while
brushing teeth.

Data Collection
Week 1: No Change

1 gallon of milk takes 48.75 seconds to fill up

Average time it took to brush teeth, 50.23 seconds
Divide time 50.23 seconds by the time it takes to fill up a gallon of milk.
~ 1.03 gallons used to brush teeth.

Week 2: Change

10 ounces of water used twice daily (morning and night).

* 10 ounces of water = 0.0781 gallons *

Results
1.03 - 0.0781 gallons = 0.95 gallons saved every time you brush your teeth.
If you brush your teeth twice a day, you could save.
-

1 week = 13.5 gallons

1 month = 54 gallons
1 year = 684 gallons

If the whole population in Chicago would chime in..

Population in Chicago: 2,719,000
2,719,000 x 684 gallons =

1,859,796,000
Gallons of water would be conserved.
