ACTION PLAN

To contribute to the goal of preparing reflective practitioners, student teachers will write an Action Plan at the end of first, second, and third field
experience with input from their cooperating teacher and/or the University supervisor. The Action Plan synthesizes each field experiences
evaluation, links each field experience to the next, establishes goals for improvement, and forms an agenda for discussion between the student
teacher, the cooperating teacher and University supervisor at the beginning of the subsequent field experience. For First Field Experience only
(excluding Physical Education students), the Action Plan will be completed during the co-requisite Professional Seminar course.

I have shown thorough to advanced development in the following Professional Competencies developed
during this field experience:
-I feel as if I have shown advanced development in competency 2. I contributed problems to a written
test that my cooperating teacher validated and used with students. I also helped students working in
groups in labs to work safely and efficiently, using verbal instructions on how to handle equipment.
-I have also shown advanced development in the 12th professional competency. I have seen teachers
who handled students in a less than professional way by reacting emotionally and acting
unreasonably. I have also seen teachers work with students very effectively and fairly, to redirect their
energy back to the lesson. I believe that I can distinguish when the methods used are ethical ones that
are decided upon by considering what is best for the development of the students.

I would like to improve my skills in the following Professional Competencies developed during this field
experience:
-I would like to improve my skills related to competency 1 in knowing what material needs to be taught at the
different grade levels, as well as how to interpret the knowledge that is a part of the curriculum to best convey the
information to a class.
-I plan on improving my skills related to competency 9 as I feel as though I need to develop my ability to
collaborate with other members of the school community. Because the first field experience was primarily
observation, I did not feel as if my interaction and cooperation with others was very thoroughly exercised.
-I would like to improve my skills for competency 11 as part of being a teacher is being a lifelong learner. I think
that because I was only able to participate through passive observation, I was not able to test what skills I learned
from other teachers.
-For competency 12, I would like to develop my classroom management skills in treating the class democratically. I
would also like to learn more about the rules, rights and responsibilities surrounding the profession.

I will make use of the following strategies for improvement:

-To improve my skills for competency 1, I will learn more about lesson planning as well as read more into the standard science
curriculum of Quebec at the high school level.
-To develop my skills in competency 9, I will immerse myself more in my next field experience. By doing so, I hope to even better
understand the culture of school by being a part of it. More specifically, I would like to contribute to the organization of extracurricular
activities, for example a sports team or a student club or committee.
- I hope to have close collaboration with another cooperating teacher who could mentor me after observing me teach a lesson. The
teacher will be able to give me feedback on how to best improve my classroom skills. I will also continue to discuss what I observe with
colleagues and experienced teachers. All of this knowledge will allow me to reflect on my growing identity as an educator and
practitioner of the QEP.
-To improve my abilities related to competency 12, I will teach a lesson while ensuring that my treatment of all students, as well as any
other member of the school community, is fair and respectful. To learn more about the laws and responsibilities of teachers, I will take
the Policy Issues in Quebec Education class and learn as much as I can so that I can act ethically as a teaching professional.
