How Will We Assign Groups?
The students will be getting with their Happy partners to do this activity. As the
students enter the classroom they will see that on the board it says to sit with their
Happy partner. They will be instructed to sit shoulder to shoulder with their

partner. The students will have 2 minutes to find their partner and get seated. After
the 2 minutes the auditory signal of me doing the clapping copycat will be given.
Then they will sit quietly and wait for directions.
K-W-L Trio:
Once the students have found their Happy partners they will sit shoulder to
shoulder with a pencil and one piece of paper per pair. The students will have 3
minutes to write down 2 things they know about the government systems of the
world and 2 things they would like to know. The partner with the longest hair will
be the one writing the information down while the partner with the shorter hair will
be the speaker. After the 3 minutes the teacher will do the clapping copycat signal
and the students will stop what theyre doing and be prepared to share with the
class. After the teacher has taught the lesson then the students will be asked to again
with their partner, write down 2 things the learned today. This will be the students
ticket out the door. They will need to hand it in to the teacher before exiting the
classroom.
