3-a. Describe the two main reasons of literature review discussed in the book.

Literature review provides the context and theoretical framework for the research, such as
conceptual traditions, and concepts to examine problems. It presents the context for studying the
problem and can be viewed as map for understanding the relationships in the study. The
literature review provides rationale for the variables and explains concepts and definitions in the
study. (Saunders, et a., 2016)
Literature review helps to provide awareness of the current state of knowledge in the subject area
that is being researched. This is also called a systematic review, where you analyze existing
research to figure out what is already known about the subject. (Saunders, et al., 2016) A search
of relevant information sources will help determine if the subject has already been researched
and what is already known.

3-b. Describe the sources of literature review.
There are two types of literature sources available. The first is primary (grey) literature sources.
Examples include letters/correspondence, diaries, memoirs, autobiographies, official or research
projects, patents and designs, and empirical articles. These are not controlled by commercial
publishers, such as reports and conference proceedings. These sources are produced by all levels
of academics, government, business, and industry in print and electronic formats.

materials that have not been filtered through interpretation or evaluation. They share new
information by presenting original thinking or reporting a discovery.

The second is secondary literature sources. These are usually accounts written after the
discovery or original thinking. These are books, journals, magazines, newspapers, biographical
works, commentaries, and histories. Another category which can be second literature sources is
tertiary sources. These include bibliographies, dictionaries, encyclopedias, textbooks, and
websites. http://www.lib.umd.edu/tl/guides/primary-sources

3-c. Describe four main forms of plagiarism and how to avoid those.
Plagiarism is using someone elses work and/or failing to use the original source of information.
The first form of plagiarism is using someone elses work and passing it off as your own. This
can include buying a paper from an individual or paper writing service, copying text without
acknowledgement, or submitting another students paper without their knowledge. To avoid this,
one must do their own work and referencing sources if text is used from another source. The
second form of plagiarism is submitting a paper that is clearly written by someone else. Again,
avoidance is just not doing it. The third form of plagiarism is directly quoting something that

clearly needs quotation marks. If you are not going to use quotation marks, then paraphrasing
needs to be done. The last form of plagiarism is paraphrasing without supplying documentation.
